Speculations are doing the rounds for the post of governor of Jammu and Kashmir, the present Governor N.N. Vohra is most likely to get another extension. This extension might be necessary as the preparations for Amarnath Yatra which is scheduled to begin from 28th June, would be impacted if the governor is changed with less than a week to go. The suspense for the post of the Governor remains, the appointment of advisers to the Governor is making a clear stance which the Central leadership is going to take. A strong clampdown on the terrorists factions operating in the state is likely on the cards for the days to come, BJP pulled out of the coalition for precisely these reasons. A wipeout of separatists and jihadi elements in the valley is going to begin soon after the recent appointments in the valley have come to the front. Supercop K Vijay Kumar has recently been named as the chief adviser of the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. K Vijay Kumar was the Chief of the Special Task Force (STF) which killed Veerappan in operation Cocoon.
K Vijay Kumar joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1975, he had previously served in elite Special Protection Group (SPG) during 1985-1990. His previous stint in the Kashmir valley was during the year 1998-2000 as the Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF), militancy was at its peak at that time in the valley. He returned from Kashmir to serve as the Commissioner of Police in Chennai, he also headed the Operation Cocoon which ended with killing Veerappan in October 2004. He took over the charge of Director General CRPF in 2010 after the killing of 75 personnel in Dantewada. In December 2012 he was appointed as the Senior Security Adviser in Ministry of Home Affairs.
The appointment of K Vijay Kumar as an adviser to the Governor N.N. Vohra, a day after the state was put under the Governor’s rule is sending a clear message to the terrorists operating in the valley. In another major decision Chhattisgarh cadre IAS officer , B.V.R. Subramanyam was made the Chief Secretary to the Governor of J&K replacing B.B. Vyas. Earlier B.B. Vyas had already received three extensions but then he got finally replaced.
Vijay Kumar’s appointment is going to positively impact the performance and capabilities of the armed forces operating in the state. His experience will come handy in dealing with terrorist threats and also in securing the Amarnath Yatra route for the pilgrims. His past adventures are a proof of his capabilities and his deep insight will come in very handy in dealing with stabilising the threats in the valley.
It is a well timed move by the Central government in order to take control of the situation in Kashmir. Mehbooba Mufti led PDP had boosted the morales of the terrorists through her appeasement politics and inactions on them. The terrorists in the valley need a severe clampdown and neutralising most of them might be a good solution. K. Vijay Kumar is the right man for the job as he has previous experience in eliminating long time threats to the nation. His experience and work speaks for him, the centre too deserves praise for doing its best to bring back the situation in Kashmir valley under control. A well thought and well timed move indeed.
