Pune Police had gotten hold of a written piece of internal communication of Maoist cadre who were planning to assassinate the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Maoists wanted to carry out an assassination attempt reminiscent of the Rajiv Gandhi killing on May 21, 1991. The letter which Pune Police had gotten hold of, describes the need for assassination of the PM. It says that the way in which PM Modi led BJP has been forming governments in states is scary for the Maoists and poses a threat to their very existence. The Pune police had told the court that the letter was seized from the residence of one of the five people they had arrested in course of investigation with the Bhima-Koregaon violence. The earlier letters which were brought out by Times Now spoke about an alleged Maoist-Congress link through Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani. All these letters were issued quite recently, the topic ranged from letter to letter, but the content focused on causing anarchy and unrest in the country. There is no shortage of Maoist sympathisers in India, these urban naxals have for long supported the terrorists in the country. What makes matters worse is when people who are or have held important positions in the past issue mindless and careless statements regarding sensitive issues. Sanjay Nirupam ex-Congress MP and the current President of Mumbai Regional Congress Committee is one such figure. Saba Naqvi, an independent journalist is yet another.

Saba Naqvi took to Twitter to express her ‘meaningful’ observation on the letter regarding the plot to assassinate PM Modi. Her opinion was that the Maoists using emails and letters to discuss these terrorist plots, would make them the “dumbest extremists” in the world”. Saba Naqvi, in none of her tweets in the past has shown any concern for the terror plot herself, choosing to focus on sensationalizing the issue. Her narrow mindset does not even let her think of the outcomes had the plot run its course. Acting like a true champion of Maoists, she chooses to question the whole plot rather than condemning the gruesome act Maoists were plotting.

Sanjay Nirupam, another setting sun from the Congress, in a press release to ANI, has said that although he does not completely doubt the planning done by the Maoists, he thinks it is a ploy by the PM Modi to gain popularity. Sanjay Nirupam has never been close to making sense and his crassness knows no bounds. Even Congress leaders shy away from his statements. His words, therefore, do not have much substance. But the position he holds in Congress and that too in Maharashtra makes his statements worrisome. People like Saba Naqvi and Sanjay Nirupam give a boost to the Maoists and their Urban Naxal comrades who can now cry foul even after solid evidences have been recovered by the police. These idiotic statements and interviews provide them the shield behind which they want to carry out their nefarious activities.

Sanjay Nirupam should remember the time when his Congress President Rahul Gandhi had faced a minor air scare during his visit to Congress ruled Karnataka. Rahul Gandhi spared no time in calling it a ploy on his life by enemies, although it was a private aircraft booked by Congress party members. Still, PM Modi was the first person to call Rahul Gandhi and had asked for his well-being. It showed the kind of politics BJP and PM Modi wanted to play which is very different than that of the Congress. Statements of Sanjay Nirupam and Saba Naqvi need to be condemned and Congress should take some action against Nirupam for his repeated silly statements, as for Saba Naqvi she should come out in the open as a Maoist supporter and an over ground worker just to clear all clouds surrounding her affiliations.
