On Sunday, Sanjay Mondal an eatery owner in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district was shot dead just for asking Rs 190 for a plate of biryani. As of now the police have arrested one man and the search for the other three accused is going on. The police said, “The tussle started over a plate of biryani and one of the customers shot Sanjay Mondal. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. An FIR was lodged and we have arrested accused Mohammad Firoz.” Mondal’s brother said, “Firoz shot my brother. There were four people: Raja, Firoz, Mogri and Salman. They are hooligans. We all are very scared and don’t know how to run our business peacefully.” After this incident the family members of the victim is living in fear. Incidents like this is an indication of the problems the Hindus are facing in Mamata Banerjee’s West Bengal.
Under Mamata’s rule, West Bengal has become a hub of political violence and killings. West Bengal is turning out to be a living hell for the people. Instances such as raping and assaulting of women, atrocities on Hindus, and the recent killings of the BJP workers has become a day to day affair in Mamata’s West Bengal. The present TMC government in West Bengal has surpassed the violence legacy of the communist regime and this calls for an intervention by the centre and imposition of the President’s rule under Article 356 of the constitution.
The so-called media which was quick enough to give a communal colour to the Dadri incident is nowhere to be seen now. More than hundreds of famous personalities returned their awards because of the death of Akhlaq in Dadri but all the spectators remained mute on the following incidents- Prashant Pujari’s death, Malda, Puniya, Dhulagarh, Raniganj incidents and the most recent Sanjay Mondal’s case. This is the height of hypocrisy and a selective outrage. West Bengal is witnessing the killing of Hindus every day but the Mamata’s government is busy in appeasing the minorities rather than taking strict action against the goons.
The owner of the restaurant happens to be a dalit but for some strange reasons dalit champions who outraged over dalit beatings in Una, Gujarat, chose to remain silent for their strange secular reasons. So one thing is very clear from this incident that the Dalit activists will only outrage when a dalit will enter into any scuffle with the upper caste Hindus. A few days ago Dalit-Christian was killed in Kerala for marrying an upper class Syrian Christian girl. Neenu’s family had problems with Joseph’s dalit background and did not consider him to be worthy of their daughter.
Media’s role is also deplorable in such incidents. They are quick to give caste angle to any issue where there is no possibility of caste angle even road rage incidents are given casteist and religious angle. But here they are as quiet as a Mouse. They are quick to question Yogi about Tunday Kabab but they raise no question against Mamata because as she happens to be a super secular leader in their eyes. Media should be ashamed of its double standards and bias.
