The Election Commission has rejected the bogus claim of Madhya Pradesh Congress of 60 lakh fake voters. The poll body in a letter to All India Congress Committee said, ” The allegations of large-scale entries of multiple voters in these assembly constituencies is not borne out.” It also said that image repetition found was ‘not related to multiple entries’.

Referring to the unexpected growth of voters the EC clarified that, “In addition to the complaint of duplication in the voters’ list, it was pointed out that there has been unexplained growth in the electors in the state of Madhya Pradesh as the EP (elector-population) ratio which used to be 52.76% in 2008 increased to 61.45% in 2018. This has been seen from the perspective of the census data, nothing unusual could be noticed“. The Election Commission finally concluded by saying that there is no basis to dispute current electoral roll.

Sad over being mindless and baseless controversies being created around EVM and making vague accusations against Election Commission, one EC official said, ” This is creating confusion among voters and eroding their faith in the polling system”.

It’s sad to see such old political parties behaving immaturely and instead of doing introspection they are putting the blame of their defeats on EVMs and Election Commission. Election Commission has always conducted free and fair elections. It is one of the most reputed body of India which has worked towards strengthening the roots of democracy. It’s disheartening to see leaders making mockery of the Election Commission.

One week ago Madhya Pradesh Congress unit approached to Election Commission and claimed that they have provided evidence to the Election Commission that there are 60 lakh fake voters in the state’s voting list. The reason given by Jyotiraditya Scindia for coming up with this figure was profoundly senseless. Jyotiraditya Scindia asked how the number of voters in the state increased by 40% if the population has increased only by 24% in the last decade. Jyotiraditya Scindia studied at Stanford Business School but despite studying in such a reputed institute he made some logical errors in his assumption on which the entire claim of the Congress party was based. Increase of population in the last one decade has added more people in the 0-10 age bracket. This is separate from the 18 and above age bracket, the active voter category. If 40% increase has happened to the voters’ list, it has happened due to people who were born at least 18 years ago. Unregistered people also might have been added.

The elections will be taking place in Madhya Pradesh in November this year. CM Shivraj Singh is successfully governing the state from many years, he is very popular and has done many developmental works all around. The congress does not have any strong issue to target CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan so they are creating baseless controversies to get the media attention and to remain relevant in the election. They know they are going to lose it but at least they should fight with dignity instead of embarrassing themselves like this.
