Congress leaders have been notorious for dealing with other individuals, especially from the lower strata, in a derogatory manner. Their mannerisms and their high mindedness have given Congress a ‘holier than thou’ attitude which is detested by people throughout India. The Congress has tried to change this image with Rahul Gandhi coming to join people as their ‘icon’. Rahul Gandhi and other young Congress leaders, in the recent past, have tried to change their attitude and to appear as common men in the public sphere. Their pathetic attempts to appear in ‘torn kurtas’ have previously been rejected by the Indian masses.  Somehow the people fail to understand how Rahul Gandhi who every few months take a trip to some exotic country in Europe can be counted upon as a common man. People sometimes see through this gimmick while at the other end some Congress leaders break the whole façade and reveal what they are really made of. Congress leader and Madhya Pradesh chairman of Congress’ co-ordination committee Digvijay Singh is one of those leaders.

Prone to outbursts and baseless claims, Digvijay Singh was removed from the position of All India Congress Committee in charge of Goa. He was removed after he faced criticism from inside the party after Congress failed to form government in Goa despite being the single largest party. Digvijay Singh was recently appointed as the head of Madhya Pradesh coordination committee prior to the impending state assembly elections.

Digvijay Singh has once again proved how the Congress leaders treat common people who revere them as leaders. A video has gone viral which shows Digvijay Singh abusing an elderly gentleman. Singh reportedly got annoyed at the man who was showering praise on him. In an aggressive tone, Digvijay Singh approaches the elderly man warning him to shut up else he would be drowned. The elderly man held his ears and went down to touch Digvijay’s feet following the threat. Digvijay’s mannerism towards the elderly gentleman shows how he has been groomed as a leader and as a person by the Congress. The man who was threatened and abused by the Congress leader quickly submits owing to Digvijay’s position and power.

Digvijay’s conduct has been the talking point for long. He has often mindlessly blamed RSS and BJP, coined phrases such as ‘Saffron terror’ and even launched books regarding the same. His own behaviour in the video can roughly be compared to that of a small time villain. His tone of speech and his actions are derogatory in nature, not at all fitting for a person who holds an important position in Congress. The disrespect shown towards the elderly gentleman yesterday is symbolic of the treatment meted out to ordinary Indians under the Congress rule. Voters from Madhya Pradesh and all the other states which might get a chance to vote in the months to come must take note of this behaviour by a senior Congress leader. They should expect the same treatment if they are planning to vote for Congress in the upcoming elections.

No, Mr, Digvijay Singh you do not have the right to threaten and abuse somebody older than yourself simply because you come from a rich political background. Courtesy and social etiquettes are very much needed, your history and background have not been forgotten. INC cannot be expected to take some sort of action on Digvijay but the people can and the result of their actions will be seen in the polls. People will teach decency and courtesy to INC in the upcoming elections and probably then the party will understand.
