Uttar Pradesh has been a hotbed for political trials and tricks from the old days. UP is the largest state in India according to population. The 223 million plus population of UP had led to the belief among the political parties that if they were able to win UP they would be able to form government in the Centre. These are not just empty words, UP sends the largest number, 80 Member of Parliaments to the central parliament. A number big enough to make or break any probable government at the central level. PM Modi and his protégé in UP CM Yogi Adityanath realize the importance of UP and the role it will play in the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The Samajwaadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party alliance which could possibly happen in order to polarise the voters is the primary concern of the BJP leadership. The SP-BSP alliance could deal a blow to the BJP’s aim of clean sweeping UP Lok Sabha seats in 2019. Cm Yogi has according to OP Rajbhar found the perfect spot to strike at the caste based political hold of both SP and BSP in UP.
Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) leader and senior cabinet Minister in UP government OP Rajbhar has disclosed BJP’s plan for the 2019 elections. SBSP is an ally of BJP in UP and therefore when the head of SBPS says something about the strategy it should be taken as a fact. OP Rajbhar talking about BJP’s plan mentioned, “The political brahmashtra, by categorising 82 OBCs into three heads to benefit them under 27% reservations in the state, will be launched six months before the LS polls in 2019.”
According to OP Rajbhar Yogi Adityanath’s plan is to divide the OBC category into three categories. The three categories namely – backward will have four castes, very backward will have 19 castes, while the most backward will have 59 castes. This will ensure that the benefits of reservation can be enjoyed in a fair proportion by all the backward castes. As of today the main beneficiaries of the OBC quota reservations are the Yadav’s which form the main voter base of Akhilesh Yadav’s SP. The other castes are envious of the benefits being enjoyed by the Yadavs who are present in larger numbers in the state. The segregation of castes in the OBC quota will help the other caste members to get a fair chance at getting benefits.
This move will affect Akhilesh Yadav’s SP as well as Mayawati’s BSP voter base in the state. A huge population which will get a better opportunity owing to these reforms will turn towards BJP. The sizeable dent in the voter base could prove to be the final nail in the coffin for Mayawati’s BSP in the state. This measure if implemented by Yogi Adityanath in UP could serve as a guiding tool for BJP in other states as well. The regional parties of various states which engage in polarising voters on the basis of religion, caste and community would also feel threatened by this masterstroke of Yogi Adityanath.
It remains to be seen whether Yogi Adityanath and BJP leadership would give the final go ahead to this plan which is being discussed and formulated in the BJP think tank as of now. if this masterstroke is played however it will prove to be a blessing for the BJP and the population of UP. On one hand the beneficiaries of reservation will get their dues and on the other BJP will be able to win and retain its stronghold in UP and the centre.
