In recent years Odisha has witnessed a rise in rape cases. According to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Odisha police has registered 385 cases of gang rape between 2014 and 2017. While 92 gang rape cases were registered in 2017. The number was 93 in 2016, 109 in 2015, and 91 in 2014. CM Naveen Patnaik might have been humble enough to accept that cases of rapes and assault on women are growing in his state but he has not been able to fix this issue till now. On April 29th, a similar incident took place in the state, a six-year-old rape victim of Jagannathpur village in Odisha died at the SCB Medical College after a weeklong struggle.

According to the data from the home department of Odisha, 1,283 cases related to the rape of minor girls were reported in 2017. The numbers in 2016, 2015 and 2014 were 1,204, 1,212 and 1,050 respectively. Looking at the data it is clear that the government is incapable in solving issues and is not able to fix this major problem. According to the 2016 National Crime Records Bureau data, Odisha ranked third highest rate of crimes against women.

20 years into his political career, Patnaik still cannot speak Odia. At rallies, he depends on Odia speeches written in English. If he can’t understand the language of the state, then how can he understand the suffering’s of the people?CM Naveen Patnaik is just another example of blatant nepotism that is prevalent in India, who is enjoying the fruits of his family legacy just like the Nehru-Gandhi family . He in fact named his party BJD after his late father Biju Patnaik , for cashing on his father’s popularity. The growing number of rape cases in the state is the result of maladministration of the government. The land of Lord Jagannath is being tarnished because an incompetent administrator is ruling the state.

The Odisha CM should try solving these important issues rather than fighting over the origin of Rasgulla. Also the media is not reporting much regarding these heinous crimes happening in Odisha. These days the media seems to be mostly interested in blaming the Modi government rather than doing something productive for the society.

The Kalinga people who were known for their resistance to Buddhist king Ashoka, whose woman were famous for their valor during Kalinga war are now suffering because of the culprits in the state. The chief minister is just being a silent spectator in the state while the criminals are gaining an upper hand. The CM should take strong actions against all the culprits and try solving this issue in the state as soon as possible or else he might have to face the wrath of the people in the next election.
