CPI (M) cadre busted by NIA for the murder of former MLA

CPI NIA

The NIA has dealt another blow to the CPI (M) led reign of terror. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) today filed a charge sheet accusing 15 terrorists from Communist Party of India (Maoist) for the murder of MLA Ramesh Singh Munda, a member of Janta Dal (United) in 2008. Among the prime accused are Gopal Krishna Patar alias Raja Peter. Allegedly, Raja Peter had paid 4 crores to the CPI (M) terrorists to get Ramesh Munda killed in order to clear his path to the MLA seat. Peter won the by-elections held after the death of Ramesh Munda. He was accused of being in close contact with the Naxalites and sought their support in winning the seat of Tamar.

Ramesh Singh Munda, along with three others, was shot dead by terrorists belonging to the CPI (Maoist) at SS High School in Bundu village in Ranchi, Jharkhand. In an outrageous display of brutality, the terrorists had attacked the MLA while he was attending a function inside the school premises. His bodyguard and a student of the same school were among the casualties. The case was handed over to the NIA in July 2017 after the surrender of Kundan Pahan, a CPI (M) terrorist who surrendered to the police under the Nayi Disha initiative of the Jharkhand government in 2017. Kundan Pahan accepted his involvement in the murder of the JD (U) MLA and also exposed the other co-conspirators in the killing.

Another charge sheeted co-conspirator is a police officer, ASI Sheshnath Singh who provided the details of the movement of Ramesh Munda to the terrorists. The murder of a sitting MLA had caused huge uproar in the political circles with politicians demanding security protections.

These arrests and confessions expose the true nature of the so-called “protectors of Adivasi culture and forests”. It is also a further blow to the ‘urban Naxals’ who have always been supporters of Naxalite terror.  The brutal killings are a constant reminder of how the terror network functions and of Left leaning politicians resorting to sinister means for political gains. These facts must be taken into account before devising and implementing policies related to Jharkhand and other states with sizeable Naxal influence such as Chattisgarh.

The reign of terror could have ended a lot sooner had the political parties stopped providing protection and monetary help to the Naxals. While maintaining a clean face in the media, portraying themselves as champions of the poor in the liberal and intellectual society, CPI (M) and other Leftist parties have freely indulged in malpractices to gain power. A double standard is maintained wherein they raise hues and cries over the killings and security issues in the state in which their own factions are the actual perpetrators.

The NIA charge sheet should open the eyes of the people of Jharkhand, who need to realize the difference between good and evil, before it is too late. The Leftists should be exposed and held accountable for the acts committed by their brethren. The NIA charge sheet would help in bringing Raja Peter and other accomplices in the murder of the MLA to justice for the heinous crimes they have committed.
