The Bharat Bandh called on 2nd of April by the Dalit organizations and supported openly by some opposition parties resulted in widespread rioting and widespread violence. Home Minister Rajnath Singh clarified the stance of BJP in the Parliament today. He stressed the point that BJP had no hand in the Supreme Court ruling, which made certain modifications in the SC/ST act. His speech comprised of the facts and figures related to the SC ruling and how the opposition parties had changed the narrative to suit their own agendas. While the Home Minister was polite and calm during his speech to the house, BJP President Amit Shah went on the offensive against Congress Party today on the issue of Dalit protests.

Amit Shah, took a belligerent stance on the accusations to tear apart the false claims levied on the BJP by the Congress Party leadership.  The Congress Party leadership had earlier accused Narendra Modi and his government of being anti-Dalit.

In a series of tweets, directed towards the Congress Party leadership, he started off by stating that the BJP was in full solidarity with the Dalit community and the Central Government led by Mr. Narendra Modi was dedicated to fulfilling the dreams of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar.

The next tweet by Amit Shah clarified once again that the Supreme Court ruling had been given by the apex court, without any interference from the BJP and the party had taken the required action promptly. He further clarified that the government was wholeheartedly committed to protecting the rights of the Dalit community in India.

He also added that PM Modi had himself met with MPs belonging to the SC communities and assured them of the well being of the Dalit community members. The next tweet claimed that these accusations were nothing else but propaganda being spread by groups with the intention of maligning the image of BJP. He also spoke about how the same people keep on creating fake news related to reservations before the onset of election season.

This tweet was followed by facts and figures aimed at destroying the claims of Congress Party which proclaims to be champion of minority rights. He reminded the Congress Party of the SC/ST Act having been strengthened by the amendments in 2015. Demanding an apology from the opposition parties on behalf of the Dalit community, he blamed them for the sufferings of innocent people throughout the country.

The attacks on Congress Party continued with Amit Shah pointing out how Dr. BR Ambedkar had been sidelined by Congress Party itself, recounting the story of Congress Party plotting to defeat the maker of the Constitution in his political career and excluding his portrait from the central hall. He ended the tweet with a pointed attack on Congress Party claiming that the party had failed to honour Dr. Ambedkar and the Dalit community by not according him a Bharat Ratna during their reign.

Amit Shah’s attack intended to expose the hypocrisy of Congress Party and its leaders. The difference between the narrative and intent of the longest ruling party in the history of India has also come out in the open thanks to this barrage of tweets from Mr. Amit Shah. The Congress Party and other political parties have appeared defenseless against this brilliant move by the BJP party president. Congress Party’s response to these fact-based attacks by Amit Shah on Dalit issues, would be interesting to watch.
