Come November 14th and the entire social media gets flooded with jokes on Jawaharlal Nehru, most of which are jibes aimed at the blunders that he committed over the period of his prime ministership. But we conveniently overlook the biggest blunder that he committed which is creation of a unique thought process called ” Nehruvian ” ideology.
Sadly, even when the successors of Jawaharlal Nehru were not in power, the Nehruvian ideology was always in power.
The biggest fallout of this ideology was that it was the result of double imperialism that those land had faced over the last 800 years. Such ideology is not unique to India. Similar leaders emerged from the Latin America in the west to the Philippines in the East. The intellectuals in all these lands were natives in name only.
Nehruvian thought process produced self-hating, deracinated and alienated class of infantile but highly educated Hindus who held secularism as a supreme virtue and the defiling of their native culture by promoting other cultures at their own’s expense in the name of openness and liberalism. Most leftist Authors, Journalists and members of civil society can be taken as fine specimen of this behaviour. The ideology overlooks the ills that the subjugation and colonisation of the land infused its culture with.
Nehruvian thought process holds customs like Sati, Purdah, Child marriage synonymous with Hinduism but never question about how and when they got infused with the traditions of the Sanatan Dharma. An interesting point is that a part of the three aforementioned evils can be safely attributed to the Islamic invaders who would rape any lady of a suitable age after killing his husband. Similarly, Daughters became a burden for families and they started to marry them off early.
Supposedly, the Nehruvian ideology aims to promote rationality and critical thinking, but the same ideology supresses contrary opinions without any equally scientific counter claims. The works of P.N. Oak regarding Taj Mahal or the works of N.S. Rajaram regarding Harappan Valley are discounted citing their backgrounds. A classic example of Ad-Hominem in Nehruvian Ideology. Just because the solutions regarding the Indus Valley Civilization do not fit in the premises as established by the Aryan Invasion Theory, all the claims can be rejected summarily.
The common modes of reinforcing the claims of theories that naturally fit in the Nehruvian Ideology like racial divide, Perversions in Hindu Dharma or the classic lie Aryan Invasion Theory is usually through the intelligentsia via the television serials or movies to influence the especially gullible minds who can be influenced easily and without a counter claim. A Sukhi Lala (Vaishya) tormenting hapless villagers, or a Brahmin Priest discipling untouchables or a ruthless Thakur wreaking havoc on an entire village have been common themes in stories, novels and movies in India.
The proponents of Nehruvian ideology are mostly those who neither are conversant with the language nor familiar with customs of the land. Historians like Audrey Trushkey, Sheldon Pollock are all champions of Nehruvian ideology as they find secularism as laid by Nehruvian ideology more comfortable to bat for, which is essentially the exact opposite of what secularism as a concept is.
Nehru was essentially a bloated brown sahib who was cut off from the harsh realities of a nation that had been battered and bruised by years of imperialism, then partition after another partition. Nehruism is a combination of all the inherent hatred for native culture, the White Man’s burden and Communism.
In the words of Sita Ram Goel, if at all India has to survive, then Nehruism has to die. The faster it is the longer we live.
