On 30th June, the NDA Govt. launched GST (Goods and Service Tax) which aims at simplifying the complex tax structure in India by having only a single tax ie.GST. This has caused a major affect on the pockets of people. As due to the different tax slabs levied on the different goods prices of some goods have increased while the other has decreased respectively.

Just after GST was launched a very interesting tweet came out from a highly disinteresting, controversial person. She is a renowned author, columnist and has also written stories for T.V soaps.

The person is Shobha De. After achieving so much and amassing such fame, a person must be relatively well off too, right? Wrong! It does not seem true in Shobha De’s case. Just after the day of GST launching Mrs. De tweeted ‘GST ke Side Effects Unaffordable Idli’s. Seems rather absurd and weird but it is true that Mrs. De feels that Idlis have become so expensive that her pocket can’t bear it.

In a country where the 30% of the population, an estimated 224 million people are below poverty line, Shobha De’s greatly disturbing act is a shame for everyone in the country. At a time when government is trying to uplift people with its inclusion policies like Ja Dhan, Sukanya and Ujjwala, 5 star Socialites like Shobha De are busy ranting and spreading misinformation rather than supporting the government policy or criticizing it constructively.

The most humorous part of Shobha De’s tweet was the bill itself. The bill had no Idli’s but it had coffee and a ghee Pongal. Yes The outrage was about Idlis and there were no Idlis.

Someone trolled her back by stating – If Idli is Pongal, then Shobha De is Manna De.

So looks like Shobha De either forged the bill or claimed someone else’s bill as her. There is a very famous quote ‘Nakal ke liye bhi Aakal Chaiye’. Looks like Shobha De chose not exercise her brain (however little it may be) while outraging against a non-existent issue. For someone who travels by airplane and lives a privileged life Idlis becoming unaffordable is sad joke. Another noticeable thing is that the tax charged by restaurants under GST has actually come down from around 20.5% (including service tax and VAT) to a uniform 18%, so this bill doesn’t look “valid”.

She has shamed herself, and she seems to be a pro at it and frankly speaking we don’t care but to shame the poor who actually cannot afford a decent meal in a day is outrageous. 30% Indians have to pass their day under 1.9 $ i.e. (120 Rs) and they work hard, support the government and still do their bit towards nation building.

Shobha  De has proved that she is a very poor lady, and when I say poor I do not mean moneywise. She possibly is the poorest Celebrity in India.
