Congress VP Rahul Gandhi’s attack on Telangana CM KCR’s family has led to debate on dynasty politics vs family Politics. In a public meeting at Sangareddy ,Telangana, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi attacked Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. Rahul Gandhi said, targeting his family — his minister-son KT Rama Rao, daughter and Lok Sabha member K Kavitha, and nephew and Minister Harish Rao, without naming them, “Has the state been created just for four people”

Rahul Gandhi has alleged that the chief minister was not taking along with him students, youth, women and backward classes. Only contractors and land mafia are benefiting. The Congress vice-president addressed the public meeting on the eve of the third formation day of Telangana. The UPA government formed separate Telangana, though there was opposition to the move, as it understood the pain of Telangana people and their yearning for a bright future in their own state.

Although his allegations are partly true, that the Telangana government has accommodated the KCR family into cabinet and other postings, real question is, whether Rahul Gandhi really has the moral right to talk about this? His family (The gandhi Family) has been ruling the government and party from decades. After Nehru, to Indira, to Rajiv and to Rahul, the entire dynasty is in the driving seat.

Dynasty Politics vs Family Politics

What is dynasty politics? Argument from the Congress side is that the Rahul Gandhi or Sonia Gandhi are not holding any constitutional post, like PM or the ministership. They have “sacrificed” their PM/minister post for the sake of the party and hence they have the moral right to criticize KCR “dynasty” politics. Contrary to it , BJP argues that Congress is the worst form of dynasty politics because everyone knows who is going to be the next Congress president i.e. from the Gandhi family.

Let us keep those arguments aside, and check out the KCR issue and Rahul Gandhi’s allegations on them. It may be true, based on his sources that KCR family is misusing the key posts and all for a single family.

Clearly, Rahul Gandhi has no moral right to talk about dynasty politics, however that should not dismiss his allegations on KCR family. Party is owned and run by KCR, he is the CM, his son is a minister, his daughter is an MP and nephew is a minister in the KCR government. KT Rama Rao holds the key position in the party and government and there are enough signs that this family politics would eventually turn into dynasty politics.

Media, as usual focused on debating dynasty politics and gave a real miss to the issue of KCR family holding key positions in the party and the government.

As much as media poked fun at Rahul Gandhi ‘s barb at KCR family, it should have debated on the allegations made by Congress VP Rahul Gandhi.

We all agree, Congress is the worst form of dynasty politics, but that should not give anyone a permission to replicate that. Be it in Tamil Nadu or in Karnataka or Bihar or in Telangana. It is a matter of time, TRS and Telangana politics will turn into dynasty politics. We have seen this happening in TN where Karunanidhi’s son Stalin took over the party recently. We should ensure dynasty politics is discouraged in its initial form to have a progressive and Vibrant Democracy.
