The greatness of Indian democracy is exhibited when a person with much low intelligence like Rahul Gandhi also could comment on the establishment.
Taking on Narendra Modi head-on, although very lately, he expressed shock that it was the personal decision of Prime Minister! As per Rahul Gandhi, cabinet was not consulted and RBI was pressurised. He was very much worried about the autonomy of the RBI. “Modi was undoing all establishments that were systematised by the congress over seven decades” he had expressed great concern on the institutions of India.
Well, all Congress could do to support this rant was by getting a letter released by RBI employee unions saying Modi was impinging on RBI’s autonomy. Well, given their designations, if they really dare to suggest Urjit Patel on RBI’s autonomy, it shows how well established our systems are, in contrary to Rahul Gandhi’s claims.
If RBI accepts the decision of GoI, should it be seen like giving up its autonomy? If we consider this stance, no institution should be listening to any other one, so that its autonomy is maintained.
May be Rahul Gandhi wanted everyone to replicate the behaviour of ‘Finance Minister of West Bengal’, who walked out of pre-budget meeting saying there is an economic emergency in the country. Well, consider there is economic emergency, as he said. Then, he should be attending the meeting and participating in it with full heart and do suggest to solve the problem. Was it not the job of a finance minister? Instead he ran away from the meeting. This is another classic case of elected representatives fulfilling their responsibilities without rising above petty party politics.
Perhaps the experience Rahul Gaandhi had with Manmohan Singh might have been different. Perhaps he never had seen the prime minister taking decisions and so he felt Modi deviated from the responsibilities of prime minister, by taking decisions.
Forget the scams that rocked the nation during UPA regime. Even now, their reverberations could be heard. Ten days back Supreme Court asked CBI to complete investigation into the scam of buying aeroplanes by Air India. Today, another shock came in the form of CBI registering a case against AI for irregularities in procuring software from SAP and IBM. Both SAP and IBM are among the best of software firms of international repute. Yet, it appears Indian establishment successfully coerced them into submission so that the corrupt politicians and officials get their cut. Well, one shall congratulate Rahul Gandhi for establishing such an efficient regime of corruption.
Even Rahul Gandhi won’t forget the dialogue or confession by Rajiv Gandhi that marked him as “Mr Clean” before he was painted black by the Bofors scam. Rajiv felt only ten paise of the government’s expenditure was reaching the people. When Rahul Gandhi becomes prime minister (that he will, one day), he should try to reduce the ten paise to one paise.
When new 2K notes were distributed by the government, many bank officials were involved in exchanging old currency of politicians and businessmen. Perhaps many bank officials were blackmailed to do this dirty job. But, it was the legacy of seven decades congress rule that could make it possible to blackmail bank officials so easily. That was the record of law and order in our country. (And we expect it to change in few years!)
If one remembers, it was only after Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination that TN Seshan kicked the back of politicians and affirmed the constitutional authority that was accorded to the Election Commission. Till then, none were aware of the powers of EC? Well, that was how the trio of Gandhi family ruled till then had ‘respected’ the nation.
The entire Ram Janmabhoomi issue that was forgotten was made alive by Rajiv Gandhi, when he ordered opening gates and allowing ‘Shila Nyas’. Why did he allow it? Was it not pro-Hindu step by a secular government? He allowed it only as a step to balance between Hindus and Muslims. He just overruled one judgement of Supreme Court that gave alimony to one Muslim lady named Shah Bano. Abusing the brute majority he had in the parliament, Rajiv ‘amended’ the constitution. The rest is history. Even now, the same Supreme Court is struggling with the ‘triple talaq’ issue. This was how Rajiv Gandhi exhibited how much Congress respected constitutional establishments, from which Rahul gets inspiration.
If Indira Gandhi respected the Law by suspending the constitution, when her election was declared void by the Court, he father dissolved the first ever communist government that was democratically elected.
