SIMI Terrorists Encounter: When are you starting to respect the Indian Police?

30th October 2016, Sunday: Eight, hardened terrorists of the banned terror outfit, Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) murdered a security guard and broke out of the Bhopal Central Jail, pulling the police officials of the capital of Madhya Pradesh into action. Eight SIMI terrorists, hardened to core with bigotry, out after a jailbreak, were a serious threat to the nation, in a time, when pseudo secular politicians and intellectual terrorists would leave no stone unturned to make heroes out of the dreaded terrorists, be it Ishrat Jahan or Burhan Wani, until they were SHOT DOWN, deservedly.

Yes, all the eight SIMI terrorists were shot down, after an intense gunfight with the security forces at the outskirts of Bhopal city. However, if you think the heroes were from Indian Army or BSF, think again. The guys who did the job were from the Bhopal Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS), a unit affiliated to the Madhya Pradesh Police, Bhopal region. As per the official reports from the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Yogesh Kumar Chaudhary, ‘We all located the eight inmates, they fired on us, and they were killed in the cross firing’. The eight inmates were killed, as per the official reports, at the outstkirts of Bhopal.

While there is no doubt about the furore that the encounter will create in the political spectrum, one should focus on the notoriety of the SIMI terrorists who had attempted the Bhopal jailbreak. For those, who think that they were innocent prisoners, who were killed in an extra judicial murder, then let me tell you, three of them belong to the same gang, including the mastermind of the whole plan, who had successfully cut the iron bars of a bathroom window in the prison in Khandwa, three years back in 2013, stabbing two security guards in the process.

What one can deduce, with a simple mind, is that terrorists are like a dog’s tail; no matter what you do, they just WON’T IMPROVE! As per the official testimony, the inmates killed the security guard with a specialized weapon made from a steel thali of the prison cutlery. Still having doubts about their true intentions? Imagine, if they were given any specialized training, what havoc would they create!

Besides, in a time, when Islamic State is leaving no stone unturned to gain a foothold in INDIA and forward the cause of Salafi Islamic imperialism, wouldn’t it be equally foolish to just arrest them and let them rot in the jails. Wouldn’t it amount to setting the stage for another Kandahar? Moreover, will the anti India cordon be sympathetic if such an incident happens?

With that, let’s not forget the contribution of the Indian police in nipping the prospective traders of terrors in their bud. It’s time we give Indian police their due, where they actually make INDIA proud. Had it not been for the bravery and smartness of ATS Bhopal, only heaven knows what would have happened, if the plan of the SIMI terrorists was extremely successful.

On a personal note, contrary to what you think, the life of an Indian policeman, whether that of a normal constable on the road, or the Directorate General of an esteemed department, isn’t exactly the best of the lot. While a soldier still gets a leave or two, if lucky, a policeman isn’t that much lucky either. On top of that, he / she has to work under absolutely archaic laws, whimsical politicians, and an almost uncooperative public, who would care two hoots to even behave properly, forget saluting them.

However, the way Indian police has contributed to the safety and prosperity of the Indian masses is no less compared to that of the Indian armed forces. Had it not been for Tukaram Omble, the gallant assistant sub inspector from Mumbai Police, probably people like Digvijay Singh would have been heavily successful in blaming RSS for 26/11, just because the scheming terrorists had purposefully worn the holy kalavas (a red thread, given by pandits for well being and prosperity). Who can forget the contributions of the now National Security Adviser, Mr. Ajit Doval, in crushing the militancy movement of Kashmir Valley in the late 90s? I hope we still remember the contributions of Kanwal Pal Singh Gill as the encounter specialist head of Punjab in eliminating the menace of Khalistan (even though he ruined half of his reputation as the President of Indian Hockey Federation later).

Sadly, we as INDIANS are perhaps the most thankless ones when it comes to respecting our police forces for their valor. The heroes of Gujarat police still have to face the ignominy of the encounters of dreaded criminal, Ishrat Jahan and extortionist Sohrabuddin Sheikh being labeled as fake by the pseudo liberals for their selfish motives. I hope nobody has forgotten the insults meted out to the STF of UP Police, despite the tremendous improvement they brought in lowering the crime rate during the early 2000s, whether in killing dacoits like Dadua or Nirbhay Gurjar.

I’m constrained to say this, but despite matching the Indian armed forces at every level, The Indian Police Service is yet to achieve its deserved quota of respect, and we as INDIANS are ourselves to blame for that.

While the version of the encounter, as stated by Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Shri Bhupendra Singh, does invite some questions, in no way should the police force of Bhopal be robbed of the glory that they have achieved by gunning down those eight dreaded terrorists of SIMI, just because some wily politicians and intellectuals think and speak so. It is time that the Indian police, whether of any state, be given as much respect as an Indian armed force personnel receives. It is only when we start respecting the person in uniform, then the person in uniform will start respecting us.
