Remember we had added an article about Kairana issue based on BJP MP and former Union minister Hukum Singh’s report and on-ground reportage by Zee News? Remember how we were ‘attacked’ for our alleged ‘hatemongering’.
So looks like there is some development in the Kairana Issue, afterall.
A report of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on the alleged exodus of 250 Hindu families from Kairana in Shamli district of western Uttar Pradesh, parts of which were made public on the rights panel’s website on Wednesday, all but validates what BJP MP Hukum Singh had initially said. The panel has also sought a report from UP chief secretary and DGP on the action they have taken on the findings and recommendations of its probe team – which were submitted to the state government on June 2 ..

This is what we had written:
19th January 1990, massive riots erupted in different parts of Kashmir. The target were a miniscule minority called Kashmiri Pandits who had been an inseparable part of Kashmiri ethos from last 1100 years. Kashmiri Pandits constituted little over 4.5% of Kashmir’s population but they were a rich and enterprising community, overrepresented in bureaucracy and other white collar jobs. The Kashmiri Muslims were the majority and they still are. They were writhing in poverty and they still are. Kashmiri Pandits were systematically flushed out. They were hacked to death in broad daylight, their women were killed and their properties were either torched or confiscated illegally. This resulted in the massive exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits. They were forced to stay like refugees in their very own country. Hindus of Kairana, in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district are undergoing the same carnage that forced Kashmiri Pandits to leave their homeland and migrate to other parts of the country.
At least 250 Hindu families have migrated from Kairana due to Hooliganism and extortion threats.
Village Jahanpura in Kairana had 60 Hindu Families, now there are none.
Many Hindu families have abandoned village Panjeeth in Kairana.
The source of these facts is not some evil hatemonger but a report filed by BJP MP and former Union minister Hukum Singh himself. Hukum Singh produced a list of 346 families that had fled from Kairana leaving their properties behind after they were allegedly targeted and persecuted by “another” community. “Another” as reported by Times of India is anybody’s guess!
At a press conference, the MP claimed that there have been at least 10 communal killings in the town, which has become a “new Kashmir”, in the past 3 years. The MP also claimed that he has met and informed Union home minister Rajnath Singh about the matter and the home minister has assured to visit Kairana in June-end to take stock of the ground reality.
When news correspondents tried to talk to Kairana Hindu families, they found that people there were afraid of speaking on camera fearing for their lives. An interesting fact is that when When Western UP was engulfed in the flames of communal riots that emanated from Muzzaffarnagar, Kairana was an abode of peace and calm.
Shamli DM Sujit Kumar however is an unperturbed man and he has already discarded Hukum Singh’s allegations as bayaanbaazi – hollow gossips and has even disregarded the news of exodus of Hindu Families as a false alarm.
The attack on Kashmiri Pandits was an expertly orchestrated pogrom against them. The killings and attacks did not have an immediate cause per se. The massacre was executed perfectly. Notable and prominent Kashmiri Pandits were killed to instil fear in the minds of ordinary folks. It is estimated that over three and half lakh Kashmiri Pandits were displaced because of the pogrom against them. What’s happening in Kairana is reminiscent of the Kashmiri Pandit genocide and the Indian Government must crush the hateful aggressors before they metamorphosize into a stronger and more organised structure.
The secularism of the reigning Samajwadi Government has reached sickening proportions. Probably, they are inspired by the Mamata Model of power – Appease the Minorities, Annihilate the Majority that is.
As the famous quote in Hindi goes – Truth can be hassled but not overpowered
