Allegedly, 346 Hindu Families have been forced to leave Kairana, UP, a small town in Shamli district after repeated death threats from the peaceful community. Unsurprisingly, the town has an 85% population from the said community and it follows a pattern of a series of concerted campaign against Hindus where they are overwhelmingly in the minority. We witnessed it in Kashmir, and more recently, we witnessed it in several towns of West Bengal. Perhaps, the hatemongers have realized a violent campaign like the one in Kashmir harms their long term prospects as it gives Hindus a focal point to rally around. However, if it’s carried out with intimidation and without widespread violence, the same objective can be achieved without attracting attention to oneself.
The Kairana matter was brought to light by BJP MP Hukum Singh, the elected representative of the constituency. The National Human Rights Commission has sought a report from the SP government in 4 weeks time. But the SP Government which is clearly denying the whole migration altogether, what sort of objectivity can be expected from them while compiling the report?
The silence of the BJP top brass about Kairana is deafening. No senior member of the party has spoken even a word about Hukum Singh’s claims and the grave injustice that is underway against Hindus at Kairana. No mainstream media has highlighted the issue and given it the attention it deserves. They are guilty as well, guilty of the conspiratorial silence.
Demography is not destiny but unless taken into consideration and worked upon, Demography does provide an astonishingly accurate glance of the future. With decreasing Hindu population and their replacement with another which does not seek to assimilate with ours, the vision of the Future is bleak. As more and more constituencies turn into Hindu minority areas, Hindus can expect severe constraints in their way of life at some point of time as the other community has revealed itself to be oppressive and not half as tolerant of diversity where they are in the majority.
In a highly multicultural society, there is constant friction between different sections of the demography and when there is one particular community that refuses to integrate with the majority community, frequent clashes can be expected to happen. Especially in India, secular political parties encourage the minority community to not integrate with the majority because should it happen, they will lose their relevance altogether. If the minority community which inherently is less open to assimilation is encouraged not to assimilate, what other than complete disaster can we expect?
When Akbaruddin Owaisi uttered those puke inducing words from the podium, it was more disturbing to witness the huge cheer with which it was received. The huge crowd during Yakub Memon’s funeral, a convicted terrorist, does not bode well for inter-community relations. The huge crowds in Kashmir which openly call terrorists martyrs and pay their respect accordingly could well be a glimpse of the future. Moreover, the constant demonization of Hindus in mainstream media discourse in comparison with the minority community which is treated with kid gloves does nothing to alleviate the problems that we face today.
The appalling aspect of the Kairana Exodus is the Hindu ‘intellectuals’ who were trending #StopHinduExodus were the same ones who accused a Hindu outfit of polarization when they were video taped conducting self defense drills.
In case they haven’t noticed, the constant sermonizing they have handed out to Hindu outfits hasn’t actually helped protect Hindus from atrocities at all. Maybe, just maybe, instead of patronising, one should make an effort to comprehend the reason behind continued atrocities against Hindus in a mass scale even when such outfits exist.
Hindus are demanding that the Government take action against the perpetrators so that justice is ensured to the victims. However, it’s a quick fix remedy which does not address the core issue at hand. It is a symbol of a decaying society that the fulfillment of necessities as basic as personal safety and dignity has been outsourced to an impersonal entity, the government. Demands of justice from the government is a short-term fix which does nothing to guarantee that such a gross travesty of human dignity will occur in the future. And the main objective of the political party in power of course is to ensure that its grip on power is continued and as such it cannot be trusted with something as essential as personal dignity.
Therefore, the Hindus must realize at some point that the secular state of India with its current laws and form is inherently aligned against them, that all political parties use them merely for votes but do not even guarantee them their personal safety and dignity. The Hindus must organize self defense drills in localities where they feel they might be under threat from known quarters. Personal security and dignity cannot be outsourced to an organization of people, the government, which is not emotionally invested in your safety. The ethos of Liberty and Freedom can survive only when the population is reliant on itself for basic necessities and not the government. While Kairana might need a quick fix in the form of government intervention, the long term goals cannot be achieved if citizens refuse to take measures to ensure their own safety.
