Feku was a title given to Modi during national elections by the greatest poet living or dead: Kumar Vishwas. That referred to the claim that Gujarat has done well under Modi. Gujaratis answered by giving Modi 26/26 seats.
Anyways, the monicker stuck. And that was because of all the things Modi used to say during campaign. We will start India on the path of development, he used to say. We will have world class things here; we will become a nation that helps not one that looks for help; we will improve the roads, the cities, the electricity; we will make india an attractive destination for investment; we will tighten the public sector etc etc. The kinds of things every leader should be promising. The leaders so far, alas, had been promising free stuff and vague things that no one could hold them accountable for.
It’s called Vision. Something that every leader is supposed to have. In business as well as in politics. A dream of what they want to work towards. The more specific the aims, the loftier the dreams, the better for everyone. That’s exactly what’s happening in India. A guy is setting lofty, specific dreams for us to pursue. And we make fun of them.
A politician who says he will improve things is obviously Feku. Cisco CEO doesn’t get it. That poor guy was asked about whom to support in US elections and he lamented they didn’t have someone like Modi. That guy’s face lit up when he was talking about what Modi wants to do for India.

Forget oratory. Forget the foreigners. Forget, please, his English accent. Hear what he says. Listen to his dreams. Roads, power, cleanliness, connectivity. That’s what he talked about in US Congress. And the politicians there are so tired of the ideological airy-fairy discussions and the hate mongering that’s going on in their country that they stood up to salute a guy who was talking about things that matter.
It doesn’t matter. Not in India. No one will change their mind about him. Those determined to hate him, call him Feku will pick some part of the agenda yet to be fulfilled and scream betrayal. They will shout 15 lakhs, they will cry buckets over a 0.2% cess, they will make Pahlaj Nihalani more famous than he ever dreamed of, and miss the big picture of a country transforming.
No matter. The country will still transform. To hell with the haters.
