Rana Ayyub’s book about 2002 Riots: Thoda Fantasy, Thoda Hate

Rana Ayyub

Meet Maithili Tyagi, beautiful, suave and sneaky press reporter. Her pretty face adorned with thick horn-rimmed spectacles, the contours of it sketched by a mesh of curly tresses. Maithili walks around with a recorder, a microphone and a spy-cam concealed expertly in her chemise. Maithili gets access to every place. Maithili gets an interview with everyone. Maithili is Mata Hari, Maithili is Anna Chapman, if the necessary combat trainings are provided Maithili can very well be Natasha Romanov. Maithili knows that a Muslim girl invites suspicion. She knows how hateful people in this country are, Maithili is not Maithili therefore. She is just a fake Hindu Mask to conceal the truthful Muslim Inside. Maithili is Rana Ayyub, the Investigative Journalist of the decade. Her book about Gujarat Riots is a mixture of teenage fantasies and prejudiced outbursts. Rana Ayyub is quite famous on twitter for taking on Bhakts, in her book she chooses to take on Bhagwan – Narendra Modi.

In her book Rana Ayyub and her American accomplice Mike con IPS officers and specially trained security staff. They even con the intelligence units. This is the same unit which nabbed and perforated terrorist Ishrat Jahan. This is the same unit which has averted some of the major terror attacks in the country but heck! They couldn’t identify Maithili and Mike.

Rana Ayyub, who was with Tehelka at that time, covertly managed to record videos of her conversations over months. Her book is based on the video conversations. She hasn’t released the videos and at this point of time we are unsure if she plans on releasing them. Rana Ayyub claims to have interviewed every single top cop in Gujarat and has interviewed Modi and Shah as well. What hits me as bizarre is the fact that Rana Ayyub chose to conceal these “undeniable proofs” when the Gujarat Riots case was sub-judiced and Modi was under trial.

Tehelka which has proved itself to be a Congress Mouthpiece commands no respect. Rana Ayyub has made it big (at least on Twitter) by repeatedly badmouthing PM Modi and his followers. The fact that she is a columnist with NDTV makes her case even shakier. Unbiased journalism from a concoction of the aforementioned three is as improbable as Kejriwal spending three days straight without accusing Modi.

Rana Ayyub seems to be treading the paths of Sanjiv Bhat who claimed to expose Modi as well. Sanjiv Bhatt had lodged a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a court -monitored SIT probe in relation to the two FIRs against him that is forcing his subordinate to file an affidavit in a 2002 riots case and hacking the email of a law officer. The Supreme Court demolished the propaganda of Sanjiv Bhatt and it exposed how the Congress Party and NGOs with vested interests have used pawns like Sanjiv Bhatt to trap Modi.

Media’s obsession with 2002 riots is so commonplace that a tragic event has been reduced to a meme. Rana Ayyub has exploited the same obsession. I went through two articles, the first one on NewsLaundry which establishes Rana as the protagonist of a crime thriller. The second one on Firstpost gives her a trying-to-save-the-world-from-bad-guys-Avenger like Aura. Scroll.in has already written an ode to the “brave” journalist. Caravan Magazine has published excerpts of the outstanding reportage.

Hate is a very good motivation but when it starts driving the brain, it gets a little chaotic. Rana Ayyub’ s teenage fantasy seems to be the work of a hateful mind. Tough luck Rana Ayyub, think of a more believable story next time.
