Degree is in the air. Degrees are everywhere. Where ever you go, degree follows. Paise do degree lo, degree lo paise do. Kyu degree degree karti hai kyu degree pe tu marti hai. Ye degree mujhe de de Thakur. Nahiiiii…….
The season of degrees has arrived, folks, and it is here to stay. Aam Aadmi party kickstarted the season, showering the first rains on Narendra Modi, asking for his degrees to be made public, followed by a series of allegations, adjudications & theatrics that would send a message to ISIS to stop taking peoples lives & start taking their degrees!
India’s obsession with degrees is very well-known. When you walk in a job interview, the interviewer spends more time analyzing your degrees than your merits, and you end up believing that India has no place for talent if you do not belong to the coveted IITs or IIMs.
Another time when you regret not having a ‘respectable’ degree is when you go out hunting for a life partner and hear your probable-future in-laws say “Nahi hume humari ladki/humare ladke ke liye zyada padha likha ladka/padhi likhi ladki chahye”. You might as well wish to change your facebook profile picture with your degree and satisfy your battered self-respect by counting the number of likes.
So, like majority of fellow countrymen, Arvind Kejriwal & his henchmen were hell bent on getting their hands on Modi’s degree. Just when Kejriwal was about to make Delhi achieve utopia by unearthing the truth behind Modi’s degree, Amit Shah & Arun Jaitley addressed a counter press conference, presenting the Diamond of Kohinoor to AAP. But, what’s a 793 carats piece of stone in front of the fifth classical element of degree? Unfettered by the unclinching proof & criticism, AAP held a counter-counter press conference, rejecting the hard evidence thrown at their face with statements & arguments that would make Aristotle & Plato, the fathers of logic, turn in their grave! Even after achieving the objective of diverting media attention from the Agusta Westland issue, conducting manhunt in Delhi University, after which the VC came out authenticating the degrees, AAP is not convinced. Next time if you see the Supreme Court hearing a plea on Modi’s degree, please don’t get surprised. We trust AAP to the core!
The season has set in well. If you think you are witnessing the last flurry of rains, wait for the retreating monsoon to hit Arvind Kejriwal. Questions are already being raised about his IIT JEE rank & his his stint as IRS commissioner. Though, one cannot expect the same amount of commitment as shown by AAP, social media will ensure that it keeps drizzling. While Narendra Modi has maintained distance from the degree saga and is focused on his work, Arvind Kejriwal’s obsession for degree refuses to die. After all, as Kejriwal would say, ek college degree ki keemat tum kya jano Modi Babu.
