Dear Media if you are done with Dadri reporting, shall we move to Kupgaon, Mograhat and Dimapur?

Before proceeding any further, I would like to say that I am absolutely against the lynching of the man that occurred in Dadri, Uttar Pradesh recently and condemn it. It is perhaps a condemning sign of our sad times that one has to make a disclaimer along these lines before stating something very obvious.

Well, what happened in Dadri was horrific to say the least but the manner in which the case has been handled by the media is very immature and raises eyebrows about its motive. Not that there shouldn’t have been an outrage of the scale that it has produced but when the outrage is selective and against a particular religion time and again, it does raise some serious doubt about the propaganda the media is trying pursue. Dadri

For instance, in Kupgaon village of Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, a 15 year old died of Gun wounds sustained during Communal Clashes involving the grazing of cattle by some Hindus on fields belonging to a person from the Muslim community. The victim, Sanju Rathore, never received the kind of media attention that Akhlaq did. The only explanation for the remarkable lukewarm response of the media is that the offenders in this case were people from a minority community and the victim a Hindu. Dadri

A case that deserves special mention is that of Tuktuki Mondal from Mograghat, 24 South Parganas. The 14 year old was kidnapped, converted and raped by Muslims and the ‘Secular’ Media did all in its power to cover up the issue and form a twisted narrative of the actual events that transpired. Tuktuki Mondal is perhaps the most damning evidence of the media being sold out to vested interests. Dadri

Another gruesome incident of mob justice occurred in Dimapur on the 5th of March. The victim, Syed Arif Khan, had initially been arrested on charges of rape before a mob consisting of only Nagas managed to get their hands on the man from Karimganj after breaking into the prison. The victim was then paraded naked and beaten mercilessly and he died on the way to the City Tower. The Government of Nagaland in its official report stated there was no rape and the sex was consensual. Unsurprisingly, the story died out pretty soon and it did not receive the media attention it should have. Of course, journalists like Rajdeep Sardesai love blaming it on the ‘Tyranny of Distance’ but the most plausible reason is it was because the perpetrators in this case were not the Hindus they always love to blame. Dadri

Therefore, we see three instances where the media did not indulge in any outrage where people from the minority were at fault. Another instance that could be cited is the allegation of racism against North Eastern people in Delhi and other parts of Mainland India. Well, as a person who grew up in Nagaland, I can tell you that racism is not the sole vestige of the people from Delhi. Plains (That is how Non-Tribals are referred to in Nagaland) face severe racism from the natives of Nagaland. But if the Media is to be believed, only the North Easterners bear the brunt of Racism. Dadri

The point of this article is not to justify any sort of violence against anybody. But the narrative formed by the media where always the Majority is at fault is completely bogus and dangerous. It generates a Victimization Complex in the Minority and unjustified demonization of the Majority. The point is people can be offenders regardless of whether they are in the Majority or the Minority. And if the Media continues in its narrative of framing the Hindus in bad light and portray Minorities as victims all the time, the consequences will be disastrous for the Future of India. Dadri
