Not calling them traitors but this cry-fest for Yakub Memon was unwarranted, unjustified and unprincipled

Not calling them traitors but this cry-fest for Yakub Memon was unwarranted, unjustified and unprincipled

On On 26th of May 2014, the ever so controversial Narendra Damodardas Modi started his tenure after his swearing-in as the 15th Prime Minister of India. The occasion was grand. The mega event was attended by heads of the SAARC nations including the Pakistan President, Nawaz Sharif and Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahindra Rajpakse. All looked hunky dory. The atmosphere was positive. Twitter was abuzz with hope. The build up to one of the most interesting general elections ever met a fitting end. People’s verdict was on the wall. The politics of appeasement was disregarded. Sycophancy and Bootlicking were discarded. And nepotism was shown the exit door.

But not everything was right. Some people weren’t happy. Their worst fears had been confirmed. India had a prime minister who had no qualms in admitting that he was a Hindu Nationalist and a proud one at that. The left liberals of India were disconcerted. The so called secular brigade was scared. They expected their NGOs to be shut down and their causes to be ridiculed and they weren’t entirely wrong. The no nonsense PM was not in a mood to let them dictate their terms. He had the majority in the lower house and the young generation on his side. That probably was the first time since I started taking active interest in politics, that I noticed the desperation in left liberal camp of India.

And I must thank the justice system to hang Yakub Memon because it was his execution that clearly segregated people in two distinct classes. The one who favored the death sentence were not necessarily baying for Yakub Memon’s blood but wanted justice to prevail and a strong message to be sent. But the ones against the death sentence were trying to paint a picture that the Modi led Government is anti-Muslim. In their quest of scorning the Prime Minister of the nation, they went full retard. Their laments verged treachery. While going against the Government of India they even trespassed the interests of the nation. Even when the mercy plea was rejected by the Indian President, they arbitrated to try and stall the closing judgement on the role of Yakub Memon , one of the key accused in the Mumbai Bomb Blasts that killed more than 300.

Asaduddin Owaisi upped the ante of the Secular-Communal debate with his characteristic inflammatory fulminations against the State and its judiciary, attributing Yakub Memon’s doom to a prejudiced system which was unfair and unjust to Muslims. His target audience, the naïve Muslims were brainwashed to be certain of the fact that the Indian Judiciary is biased and they can never expect justice from it. Owaisi was backed by the Indian Intelligentsia comprising of main stream journalists, actors, directors, lawyers and social workers.

Look at the following reactions:

This so called activist who recently called the PM a stalker, crying for a terrorist!

Most of my 5000 FB friends are truly friends it seems. My home page is full of sorrow and anger at the hanging…. http://t.co/kdWPefTDPY

— Kavita Krishnan (@kavita_krishnan) July 30, 2015

And this lady has no shames in mentioning a legend and a terrorist in the same tweet!

Two namaz e janaaza to be offered today. One of a man who campaigned against death penalty& other who was hung despite contradicting reports

— Rana Ayyub (@RanaAyyub) July 30, 2015

This failed actor is playing the goddess of compassion, she was baying for a rapist’s blood last year!

Killing can never be justified, in any form, for any reason by anyone.

— Shruti Seth (@SethShruti) July 30, 2015

And here is how to create a hero out of a terrorist.

#YakubMemon seems to have been quite popular at Nagpur Central. Dozens of inmates kept a fast for him during Ramzan. Cops say didn't fight

— Rahul Kanwal (@rahulkanwal) July 30, 2015

These champions of humanity advocate for abolition of capital punishment. The argument that they make is that a number of western nations have done away with capital punishment. India should join the league too. But they fail to understand the fact that India is not at par with those ‘developed’ countries as far as socio-economic development is concerned. Our education isn’t at par with them and our judicial system isn’t as advanced, responsive and quick as theirs. Maybe, when we reach to the levels they are at, we won’t need to hang people.

But after the execution of Yakub Memon one thing is very clear. Not everyone living in India thinks about its interests. The segregation is evident. The politicians, intellectuals and common populace of this country seem divided in two distinct sets of Yes and No. The number of people on the NO side is an alarming trend. There is a thin fine line between freedom of speech and anti-national statements and there are a lot of people in India who need to respect that line. Fanning the embers of communal sentiments is going to worsen the situation. There will be more riots and blasts and as a result of that Kasabs, Afzals and Yakubs will continue to kiss the gallows.

Not calling them traitors but this cry-fest for Yakub Memon was unwarranted, unjustified and unprincipled

Yes, every extremist should be hanged. But what about those who started this saga? If justice is to be done, then it should be done from both ends and not from one end. We still feel the effects of Babri Masjid demolition. Every year on 6th of December, we hear news of riots from some places. What about those who demolished Babri masjid and started riots? Will justice be ever done to the riot victims? I’m not justifying the blasts nor do I have any sympathy for Yakub Memon, but I think lives of those thousands of people who died in post Babri Masjid demolition are also important.

The saga was started with Babar destroying the temple. When Muslims will stop defending the Babri Masjid cause, and support Hindus for reconstruction of the temple, all problems will be resolved. As simple as that.

    • Pulkit says:

Do you know how many temples your grand grand grand grand fathers destroyed in india..they destroyed a whole culture..an entire heritage..a religion.. If you want to start with Babri..please inform us where is babri masjid build upon..I have heard few of you having proud of Babri..you all know what was that before your Babri.. Babri a masjid made by Babar after demolishing one of the most holy temple of Hindus.. Now feel shame first and then try to be secular intellectual !!

Go and preach this to the people of Rome and other Ancient Empires. Romans used to capture and destroy those cities that rejected latinisation. Yet after Rome got rid of Roman Empire, the cultures, the historic places were not destroyed by the new Romans. Same was the case with other Empires. We’re living in the modern world were such kind of stupidity is labelled as barbarism. Don’t talk shit and act like those mindless Talibans or ISIS. Now, you feel shame and try to be communal intellectual.

    • Sampath Bhat says:

One must learn how to talk nonsense from you. let me give this example to simplify , lets assume that i commit a crime and based on the facts and proofs i get sentenced to 2 months jail , can i say that its not fair coz there are so many crimes happening across the citi send all of them to jail first and then punish me? That how it sounds, Riots are outburst/reaction to some incidents and it impact both the parties. Both Hindu and Muslims have been killed. Now generalizing the issue and say only Muslims were killed is acting like a Moron. For every crime there is punishment when it comes to court of law , just dont combine them. Yakub memon was punished based on the facts and proofs against him which confirms that he was involved in the crime. So whats the cry for?

    • Afnan Mohammed says:

Oh please!! Keep your nonsense to yourself. For the sake of argument, let’s assume that you’re convicted but others of the same degree are given less punishment than you. How would you feel? In my eyes, rioters who kill innocent people are also terrorists and should be measured with the same yardstick. Same degree of punishment should be applied to the rioters.

The segregation like you said is evident. But this is the world over. Its time that the secular-left (even in Europe) have to turn their heads and look Terrorism in its face – and we can now see it having followers on the street.
