The Indian Army and the UAE Army began the joint military exercise Mountain Guardian 2026 on Monday at the Foreign Training Node in Chaubatia, Uttarakhand. The exercise will run until October 18, with a focus on mountain warfare.
A total of 92 personnel are participating, with equal representation from both armies. The Indian contingent is drawn from a Bhairav Battalion, while the UAE is sending troops from a Mountain Infantry Battalion. Women officers and combatants from both armies are also taking part in specialist roles.
Over the two weeks, the soldiers will carry out joint planning and tactical drills, firing practice, and the setting up of surveillance grids. They will also conduct drone operations, physical endurance training, rock climbing and obstacle training, and integrated field exercises. The training includes technology-enabled operations, and the two sides will exchange tactics, techniques and procedures for operating in difficult mountain terrain.
The exercise aims to improve interoperability, mutual understanding and cooperation between the two armies. It also gives both sides a chance to share professional experience, sharpen tactical skills and compare operational practices. The Army said Mountain Guardian 2026 will strengthen military-to-military cooperation and reinforce the bonds of friendship and trust between India and the UAE.
