A spokesman for the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said the joint operation was launched by the Indian Army, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) after specific intelligence inputs pointed to the presence of terrorists in the area.

According to the spokesman, troops noticed suspicious activity in the area and moved in to conduct a search. During the search, a hiding terrorist opened fire on the security forces, triggering a gunfight.
