The Indian Navy’s INS Mysore docked at Lumut, Malaysia on September 9, marking the start of the fourth edition of Exercise Samudra Laksamana, a bilateral naval exercise conducted jointly with the Royal Malaysian Navy.
The warship’s crew was greeted on arrival by Royal Malaysian Navy officials and representatives of the Indian High Commission in Malaysia, according to a statement released by India’s Press Information Bureau.
Over the coming days, the two navies will carry out a mix of harbour-based and at-sea activities under the exercise, including cross-deck visits, operational drills, and friendly sporting events. Officials say the engagements are designed to let sailors from both sides share professional expertise, improve their ability to operate together, and build stronger working relationships.
The port call comes soon after the 12th India-Malaysia Sub Committee Meeting, held on July 1, 2026, and is being described as a continuation of the growing defense relationship between the two countries. Indian officials characterized the visit as another milestone in deepening maritime ties and expanding naval cooperation with Malaysia.
The exercise also ties into two broader Indian government initiatives: the MAHASAGAR maritime vision and the ASEAN-India Year of Maritime Cooperation, which is being observed through 2026.
