What began as a simple phone call ended in tragedy for 17-year-old Surya Chauhan, a Class 11 student from Navneet Vihar in Khoda. On Eid evening, Surya received a call from former Muslim acquaintances asking him to meet near Chaudhary School. Trusting the familiarity, he stepped out expecting a routine conversation. He never returned home.
According to police inputs and eyewitness accounts, the meeting quickly turned into an ambush. As soon as Surya reached the narrow lane, he was surrounded by a group that included Asad, Nawab, Farhan, Atif, Sarik, and others. The atmosphere shifted within moments from familiarity to confrontation, and then to violence.
Eyewitnesses have described a disturbing sequence that unfolded just before the attack. The accused allegedly taunted the teenager with a chilling remark, asking whether he had ever seen a goat being slaughtered. Seconds later, knives were drawn and Surya was attacked multiple times in rapid succession.
Even after being severely injured, Surya did not collapse immediately. Witnesses say he attempted to escape and ran nearly 200 metres through the lane, bleeding heavily, before finally collapsing on the road.
By then, the attackers had fled.
The chaos and cries for help drew residents out of their homes. Among those who rushed to the scene were Surya’s brother Yash Chauhan and his mother. They found him critically injured and struggling for breath. With the help of locals, the family rushed him to Fortis Hospital in Sector 62, Noida. Despite emergency treatment, doctors could not save him, and he was declared dead during care.
As news of his death spread through Khoda, anger and grief quickly filled the streets. Residents gathered in large numbers, and tension began to build. Former Khoda Municipal Council chairperson Reena Bhati also reached the area, along with members of several local organisations, as demands for swift action grew louder.
Protesters called for the immediate arrest of all those named in the case. Some also demanded the strictest punishment, including bulldozer action against the accused persons’ houses, reflecting the intensity of public anger that followed the killing.
Police have since registered a case based on the complaint filed by the family. ACP Indirapuram Abhishek Srivastava confirmed that several suspects have been detained for questioning. Investigating teams are now piecing together eyewitness accounts and technical evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events.
Security has been tightened across sensitive pockets of Khoda, with additional forces deployed to prevent any escalation of tension. Officials say the situation is under control, though closely monitored, and assured that strict action will follow against those found responsible.
For Surya Chauhan’s family, however, the wait is now for answers, as a familiar evening meeting on Eid has left behind a trail of grief, questions, and an entire neighbourhood struggling to come to terms with the violence that unfolded in its midst.
