A gym trainer in Gujarat’s Surat has been arrested after being accused of sexually exploiting a married woman and attempting to extort ₹5 lakh by threatening to release private videos recorded without her consent. The arrest followed a complaint filed by the woman’s husband, who approached the police after discovering the alleged exploitation and intimidation.
The accused, identified as Sabir Ansari, was taken into custody by the Surat City Police along with the Special Operations Group. Police officials said the action was taken to prevent further harassment of the victim and to secure digital evidence believed to be linked to the alleged blackmail.
According to investigators, the woman was a regular visitor to the gym where Ansari worked as a trainer. During this period, the accused allegedly established close contact with her and gradually developed a personal relationship.
Police allege that the trainer later sexually exploited the woman and secretly recorded intimate videos without her knowledge or consent. Investigators claim these recordings were subsequently used to threaten the victim and her family.
Alleged Extortion Attempt Surfaces
The matter came to light after the woman’s husband reportedly became aware of the exploitation and the existence of the recordings. He later filed a formal complaint stating that the accused demanded ₹5 lakh and warned that the videos would be made public if the money was not paid.
Following the complaint, Surat Police initiated an investigation and coordinated with the Special Operations Group to locate and arrest the suspect. Officials confirmed that the accused is currently in custody and legal proceedings have begun.
Police are examining electronic devices seized during the arrest to trace the recordings and determine whether any material had been circulated or stored on digital platforms.
Arrest Made in City Light Area
Investigators said that the Special Operations Group carried out the arrest in Surat’s City Light area. Officers are analysing digital trails and other electronic evidence to establish the full scope of the alleged blackmail attempt.
Authorities are also recording statements and verifying details related to the relationship between Sabir Ansari and the victim as part of the ongoing probe.
Concerns Over Misuse of Trust
The incident has once again raised concerns about the misuse of trust in everyday spaces such as gyms, where trainers and clients often interact closely. Law enforcement officials say such cases often involve manipulation, coercion, and the use of secretly recorded material to intimidate victims.
The development also reflects patterns seen in other recent investigations involving sexual exploitation and digital blackmail.
In Amravati in Maharashtra, police recently arrested a 19-year-old accused who allegedly targeted several girls, including minors, by approaching them through social media and personal contact. Investigators reported that victims were lured into relationships, sexually exploited, and secretly filmed.
Authorities later discovered hundreds of obscene videos circulating on platforms such as WhatsApp and Snapchat, with the number of victims estimated to exceed 180.
Police across states have urged victims in such cases to come forward, assuring confidentiality and legal support. In the Surat case, investigators say their priority remains securing digital evidence and establishing the full extent of the alleged offences as the probe continues.
