Popular Bollywood and Punjabi singer B Praak has allegedly received an extortion threat demanding ₹10 crore, raising fresh concerns over the growing influence of organised crime gangs in northern India. According to the complaint, the threat was made in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which has been linked to several recent cases of extortion and targeted violence.
The threat did not come directly to B Praak. Instead, it was received by Punjabi singer Dilnoor, who was asked to pass the message on to him. The caller identified himself as Arjun Bishnoi and warned that serious consequences would follow if the money was not paid within a week.
As per Dilnoor’s statement to the police, the incident began on 5 January, when he received two missed calls from an international number. Since the calls appeared suspicious, he did not respond. However, on 6 January, he received another call from a foreign number. When he answered, the conversation raised doubts, and he disconnected the call.
Soon after, Dilnoor received a voice message that clearly threatened extortion. In the audio message, the caller demanded ₹10 crore and warned that B Praak would face serious harm if the demand was ignored. The caller also claimed links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and said he was operating from abroad. Furthermore, he cautioned that the threat should not be taken lightly.
Following the voice message, Dilnoor approached the authorities without delay. On 6 January, he submitted a written complaint to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Mohali. After receiving the complaint, the police registered the matter and began an investigation. Officials are now working to trace the number, verify the caller’s identity, and establish any real links to organised crime networks.
B Praak is one of the most well-known names in the Punjabi and Hindi music industry. He has delivered several hit songs and enjoys a massive fan following across India and abroad. Therefore, the threat has caused concern within the entertainment industry.
Notably, this incident comes amid a series of recent extortion and firing cases linked to the Bishnoi gang. Earlier this year, heavy firing was reported outside a businessman’s house in Delhi’s Rohini area. Similar incidents were also reported in West Vihar and East Delhi, often following threat calls. Police say investigations in those cases led to arrests after encounters.
At present, the investigation into the threat against B Praak is ongoing.
