A 30-year-old man suspected of spying for Pakistan was detained by Military Intelligence (MI) personnel in Jaisalmer on Tuesday and later handed over to the local Kotwali police, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The suspect, identified as Jivan Khan, a resident of the Sankada area in Jaisalmer, had previously worked at a restaurant located within a military area.
According to sources, Khan was attempting to re-enter the Army station on August 19 when security personnel stopped him at the gate due to his suspicious behaviour.
Upon checking his mobile phone and detecting questionable activity, MI officials took Khan into custody. He was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation. During preliminary questioning, Khan reportedly admitted to having relatives in Pakistan.
Officials said that Khan will be presented before the Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC), where multiple security and intelligence agencies are expected to question him further. The investigation is ongoing, and more details are awaited.
This is the fourth suspected espionage case reported in Jaisalmer this month, raising serious concerns over national security in the sensitive border district.
Earlier, on August 13, Mahendra Prasad, a contractual manager at the DRDO guest house near the Chandan Field Firing Range, was arrested on similar charges. Prasad, a resident of Almora in Uttarakhand, was allegedly in contact with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) via social media platforms and accused of leaking sensitive information about the movement of DRDO scientists and Army officers involved in weapons and missile testing.
Authorities are now examining possible links between the two cases, amid heightened alert along the border region.
