In a case of alleged discrimination, a nursery student was reportedly assaulted by the principal of a private school for greeting her with “Radhe Radhe” in the Durg district.
The incident reportedly took place on Wednesday at an English Medium School under the Nandini police station of Jamul area in Durg district.
The accused, identified as Ila Evan Colvin, allegedly beat the child during morning assembly and sealed her mouth with tape as punishment for using the traditional Hindu salutation.
The accused teacher also warned her against using the said greeting again.
The matter came to light when the young girl narrated the ordeal to her parents after returning home.
Her father subsequently filed a written complaint with the local police, leading to the registration of a case under Sections 115(2) and 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.
Following the incident, local Hindu organisations staged a protest outside the police station, demanding immediate action and stricter monitoring of religious bias in schools.
Protesters also submitted a memorandum urging authorities to ensure such instances do not recur.
Authorities have confirmed that an investigation is underway.
