Bihar: Woman Faints During Home Guard Recruitment Drive, Gang-Raped In Moving Ambulance

Bihar Woman Faints During Home Guard Test, Gang-Raped In Moving Ambulance

A 26-year-old woman was allegedly gang raped in a moving ambulance after she fainted during a physical test while participating in a Home Guard recruitment drive in Bihar’s Gaya district.

According to the police, the incident took place on July 24 while the woman was being taken to the hospital after losing consciousness during the Home Guard recruitment exercise at the Bihar Military Police grounds in Bodh Gaya, Bihar.

The organisers for the recruitment drive arranged for her immediate evacuation to a hospital via an ambulance stationed at the site.

In her complaint, the woman alleged she was raped by multiple individuals inside the ambulance while she was unconscious.

Following her statement, an FIR was registered at Bihar’s Bodh Gaya police station. An SIT and a forensic team were also deployed to probe the matter.

Within hours of the FIR, the SIT arrested two accused, identified as Vinay Kumar, the ambulance driver, and Ajit Kumar, the technician on board.

The two men are currently in police custody and are being interrogated. The CCTV footage from the vicinity has provided confirmation of the vehicle’s route and timeline, officials confirmed.

According to the police complaint, the woman said that even though she lost consciousness during the physical test, she was partially aware of the events during the transport.

She later informed police and hospital authorities that three to four men inside the ambulance raped her.

Meanwhile, the incident has prompted a response from Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MP Chirag Paswan.

Despite being a NDA ally, Paswan criticised the law-and-order situation in Bihar and questioned the functioning of the state police.

Bihar elections are tentatively scheduled for October or early November 2025.

The Commission has also launched a statewide voter awareness campaign emphasising online registration, voter ID verification, and inclusive polling access for older and differently-abled people. These steps aim to maximise turnout and ensure a smooth, transparent process.
