On March 9, India secured victory against New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final, winning by four wickets. Cricket fans across the country celebrated the triumph with enthusiasm, flooding the streets with chants and fireworks. In Telangana, thousands of fans gathered to mark the momentous occasion, but the celebrations took a violent turn when the Hyderabad police resorted to lathi charge in Dilsukhnagar to disperse the crowd, citing unruly behavior and traffic disruption.

The police action faced strong condemnation from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders. Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy shared videos of the lathi charge and criticized the Congress-led government, stating, “This is how the Congress government in Telangana is not allowing India’s Champions Trophy 2025 win celebrations. Shameful!”

Further condemning the police intervention, Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar questioned why celebrating India’s victory was being treated as a “communal issue.” He challenged Telangana’s Home Minister, Revanth Reddy, asking, “Which country is Karimnagar police supporting? How does celebrating India’s victory become a ‘communal issue’? The Telangana DGP and DG Intelligence should explain why the police are eager to create law and order problems.”

Similar incidents were reported in Karimnagar and therefore people came up to question the Congress government of whether Congress keeps celebrating India’s victory under the bracket of crime? It is being said that the crowd was blocking roads, leading to police intervention but does that justify the police administration use of violence against those supporting India’s victory.
