Haryana Police have arrested a key suspect in the murder of Congress worker Himani Narwal, whose body was found stuffed inside a suitcase near the Sampla bus stand on the Rohtak-Delhi highway on March 1. The arrest comes just a day after the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case. The team arrested the suspect, named Sachin from Delhi. Currently he is in Haryana Police’s custody. As per reports, Police also recovered Himani’s phone and jewellery from the arrested accused.

Reportedly, around a year ago, they came in contact via social media and were having an affair. The arrested accused Sachin is married and has two children. He claims that he was in a relationship with the deceased Congress worker Himani Narwal and frequently visited her house.

He further alleged that the Congress leader recorded an objectionable video during their intimate relationship. According to him, she was blackmailing him and was repeatedly extorting money from him. According to his claim, she had extorted Lakhs of rupees from him. However, the police are yet to officially confirm media reports of the claims made by the accused.

On their part, Police said he stuffed her body into a suitcase after killing her and abandoned it about 800 meters from the Sampla bus stand, after which he fled to Delhi.

Narwal’s family had initially refused to perform her last rites until those responsible were brought to justice. They alleged that some individuals within the Congress party were envious of her rapid political rise. Narwal, who was in her late 20s, lived in Rohtak’s Vijay Nagar and was actively involved in Congress politics. She had also participated in Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ and was pursuing a law degree.

Her postmortem was conducted by a board of doctors in Rohtak, confirming that her body bore injury marks.

Deceased’s Mother Alleges Political Jealousy Behind Murder

Himani’s mother, Savita, made shocking allegations, blaming the election and the Congress party for her daughter’s death. She claimed that Narwal’s growing political stature had made her a target. Savita also stated that her daughter had received threats and was at home on February 28 before she went missing.

“The election and the party took my daughter’s life. Himani had enemies because of her success. The culprits could be from the party or even her friends,” Savita said. She further mentioned that Himani was close to senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and the Hooda family, which might have fueled jealousy. She vowed not to perform the last rites until justice was served.
