Parvesh Verma Defeats Kejriwal: BJP’s Rising Star in Delhi

The Delhi Election Results 2025 have birthed a new pan-India leader in the form of Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, the giant Slayer in the recently concluded elections.

While Verma has a rich political legacy and has been a name in the Indian politics for at least a decade now, his feat of defeating the AAP chief who had made Delhi his stronghold, will certainly catapult his political career to a new height.

Verma, a prominent face in Delhi BJP unit, has been a factor in the national politics prior as well. His role especially came to the fore front when he played a crucial role in hosting meetings of Amit Shah with prominent leaders of the Jaat community, where the latter was considered disenfranchrised from the saffron party.

Being a prominent face from the community and a grass root leader as well, he assisted the central leadership in its Jaat outreach ahead of the recent UP state assembly elections.

Born on November 7, 1977, Parvesh Verma is the son of the late Sahib Singh Verma, who was himself a former Chief Minister of Delhi.

His political life started in 2013 and he became a member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly from the Mehrauli constituency, scoring a remarkable win after defeating the earlier Speaker, Yoganand Shastri. In 2014, Verma entered into national politics, winning a seat in the Lok Sabha from West Delhi and being re-elected in 2019 with a historic margin of 578,486 votes in the history of Delhi elections.

Now in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, Verma has emerged victorious at the New Delhi seat, defeating the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Given his political pedigree, electoral successes, and significant role in the BJP strategy, Verma has emerged as a strong contender to be hailed by many as the Chief Minister of Delhi. The dethroning of Kejriwal will make him no doubt one of the new-age ‘giant killers’ on whose shoulders will rest either the Chief Minister’s post or the most significant cabinet berth in the state government. His leadership may, however, herald a new era in Delhi’s governance in accordance with the BJP design for the capital.
