Rahul Gandhi, the nawabzade coming from the Gandhian Dynasty will be long remembered for his relentless efforts to create rift between the different sections residing in India. Rahul Gandhi has adeptly capitalized on every divisive issue including fostering caste tensions in India, fueling the North-South divide, and engaging in Muslim appeasement in order to keep his political shop running. But at the latest, the man born with a silver spoon has jumped way ahead to launch a war upon the Indian state! It seems Rahul Gandhi with 89 failed elections has garnered enmity against the Nation as a whole rather than his political opponents.
Congress leader and leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has declared a “fight” not only against its political rival Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) but also against the Indian State as a whole. While speaking at the inauguration of the new Congress headquarters, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the ruling party BJP and the RSS has taken control over every institution of the country. He further remarked that the fight Indian National Congress is engaged in is not only against BJP and RSS but also against the Indian State.
“This is not a fair fight. If you think we are merely opposing political organizations like the BJP or RSS, you are missing the bigger picture. The BJP and RSS have taken control of every institution in the country. Our battle is now against the BJP, the RSS, and the Indian State itself” Rahul Gandhi said.
Rahul Gandhi launched attacks upon the RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, calling his recent remark that India achieved “true independence” only after the consecration of the Ayodhya Ram Temple “treason” and an insult to the sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters. He stated, “Claiming that India did not gain independence in 1947 is an insult to every Indian and undermines both the Constitution and the independence movement.” However, while targeting the RSS Chief, Gandhi went further and declared a war on the state itself.
Though this is not the first time Rahul Gandhi has expressed his aspirations of standing against the Indian State. His trajectory of actions since years have notified the people of India regarding the disturbing goal he has. Let us look at other instances as well where he poured his efforts in deeping the societal rift in the country and also stood against the very definition of the Indian state.
Rahul Gandhi’s Claim of India being a ‘Union of States’
The leader of Opposition has plenty of times referred to India as a Union of States which contradicts the very definition of the Indian States and misrepresents India’s true identity. While referring to India as a ‘Union of States’, Rahul Gandhi cites Article 1 of the Constitution, which defines India as “India, that is Bharat, shall be a Union of States,” but what he omits down is the context provided by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar upon this phrase.
Ambedkar clarified that the term “Union” emphasizes the indestructible nature of India’s federation, where states cannot secede, distinguishing it from the American model of federation where different states have come together to form a single nation-state what we know as the United States of America.
By selectively interpreting the Constitution, Gandhi reduces India to a mere administrative amalgamation of states, dismissing its historical and civilizational unity. This view aligns with the Congress’ long-standing narrative of “creating” India in 1947. Historical texts like the Vishnu Puran and the invocation of Bharat Mata during the independence movement highlight that India has always been seen as a unified cultural entity, transcending political boundaries.
Moreover, conflating the concept of a state with that of a nation reflects a fundamental misunderstanding. A state is a political-administrative structure, whereas a nation is a collective bound by shared culture, history, and values. India, as a civilizational state which predates the modern nation-state concept and embodies a unity rooted in diversity.
Rahul Gandhi meeting with Donald Lu
Rahul Gandhi in 2023 during his visit to the United States met with Donald Lu, the US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs and other officials from the Biden administration. During his foreign visits, he raised concerns about India’s democracy and called for foreign intervention.
Donald Lu has been a figure who has always stood against the sovereignty of India. In 2023, he appeared before the US Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, he expressed concerns about the lack of legislative assembly elections in J&K post-abrogation of Article 370. Despite India’s efforts to restore normalcy, with a significant reduction in violence and increased tourism, Lu continued to voice propaganda regarding the human rights violations in Kashmir. He also expressed his concerns on the arrests of journalists and government employees linked to terrorism in Kashmir.
It must be noted that Donald Lu has got a track record of intruding into the internal matters of other countries and undermining the stability of these nations. Donald Lu’s actions, along with the US’s hegemonic worldview, undermine the sovereignty of other nations. Lu’s approach to diplomacy in South Asia reflects a broader pattern of meddling in domestic affairs under the guise of promoting human rights. He is often at the centre of allegations of overseeing regime change operations.
MOU with China
Rahul Gandhi and his political party, Indian National Congress has also been found to have close ties with China. In 2008, during the UPA-1 tenure, the Congress Party signed an MoU with the Communist Party of China (CPC) in Beijing, fostering high-level information exchange and cooperation. This agreement also allowed both parties to consult on bilateral, regional, and international issues. The MoU surfaced amidst strained relations between Congress and India’s Left parties. Congress’s ties with China came to limelight during the 2017 Doklam standoff when Rahul Gandhi was caught secretly meeting Chinese officials. In 2020, revelations about the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF) receiving over ₹1 crore from the Chinese government since 2006 raised eyebrows.
Rahul Gandhi meeting Chinese Ambassador during Doklam Standoff
Back in 2017, Rahul Gandhi met with Chinese Ambassador to India, Luo Zhaohui, on July 8, a few days after the Doklam Standoff between the Indian and Chinese security personnels. Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to defend the meeting, stating, “It is my job to be informed on critical issues. I met the Chinese ambassador, ex-NSA, Congress leaders from NE & the Bhutanese ambassador.” It was surprising that the then Vice President of India’s main opposition party had to gather information about the India-China standoff from the adversarial state.
North-South Divide
Ahead of the 2021 Kerala Legislative Assembly elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi resorted to ‘North-South’ divide, aiming to appeal to voters in Kerala. On a two-day visit to the state, Gandhi, who represented Wayanad in Kerala, compared his experience of representing a constituency in the North for 15 years to his current role, describing it as a “refreshing change.”
Addressing a public gathering in Trivandrum, Gandhi praised the people of Kerala for being deeply engaged in political issues, stating, “People in Kerala are interested in issues and not just superficially, but going into detail.” This comment appeared to imply that the people in the North lack the same level of seriousness when addressing issues, which could be seen as an insult to his constituents in Amethi, who had repeatedly voted for him. The vile statement by Rahul Gandhi was seen as a result of his electoral defeat from the Amethi constituency in the 2019 general elections which used to be Gandhi Family’s long standing bastion.
Also in 2020, Rahul Gandhi had remarked that North Indian states tend to focus more on the centralization of power, whereas South Indian states prioritize decentralized approaches, such as Panchayati Raj, which empower local communities more effectively.
Caste Politics
Rahul Gandhi and his party has time and again lifted the demand of caste census, claiming it would help allocate resources and formulate policies for the lower castes. However, his lack of clarity and inconsistent messages surrounding the issue have raised doubts about his genuine intentions. While he calls for a caste census to better understand the socio-economic status of lower castes, he fails to provide a concrete roadmap for how such a move would work, or what the ultimate goal would be.
Additionally, Rahul Gandhi’s remarks about increasing the reservation quota beyond 50% and his comments on the caste of social media influencers and media personalities reveal a shallow understanding of the issue, showcasing his lack of preparedness to address such a sensitive matter effectively. Moreover recently, Rahul Gandhi has come forward to demand reservations in the private sectors as well which can be disastrous as it will make the companies not invest in India and move away. It is quite clear that the motive of Rahul Gandhi and Congress does not lies in uplifting the marginalized communities but creating caste divide in the Hindu community in order to fetch votes.
