On Monday (13 January), RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat hailed the Ram Janmbhoomi movement stating that it was for the “awakening of our self (swa)” Bharat so that the country could stand on its own feet and show the path to the world. He asserted that Bharat got “true independence” on the day of Ram Mandir consecration.
He said, “What is our tradition of 5000 years? The one which started from Lord Ram, Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva. That is our own. There was a movement for the awakening of our own.”
In his insightful speech, the RSS Chief added, “ In the meetings, college students asked questions like why did you build temples, leaving concern for people’s livelihood. Someone must have told them to ask this. So I used to tell them that it is the decade of the 80s. We got independence in 1947, Israel and Japan started with us, and they reached great heights. We used to worry about people’s livelihoods all the time. We talked about socialism and gave all the slogans, but did it help?… The path to livelihood of India also goes through Shri Ram Temple. Keep this in mind. So, this entire movement was for the awakening of India’s self.”

The Ram Janmboomi movement was a spiritual and cultural awakening movement that brought pride to Hindus and confidence in their region. The struggle for this cultural and religious awakening took more than 500 years of rigorous struggle in a Hindu-majority nation itself. The conception of ‘Ram Rajya’ could only be fulfilled by reviving the glory of Ayodha in the true sense.
Mohan Bhagwat highlighted that the Hindu “tradition was in chaos in Ayodhya” that needed to end. A new awakening has to be started. The Ayodhya will not suddenly become ‘real Ayodhya, but what happens and what is happening right now in Ayodhya will make it one, the RSS Chief.

The date of the consecration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya should be celebrated as “Pratishtha Dwadashi” as the “true independence” of Bharat, which faced “para chakra” (enemy attack) for several centuries, was established on this day.
Mohan Bhagwat was speaking at an award ceremony in Indore, Madhya Pradesh after presenting the “National Devi Ahilya Award” to Champat Rai, general secretary of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, in Indore.
An idol of Ram Lalla was consecrated at the grand Ayodhya temple on January 22, 2024, in a landmark event led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, as per the Hindu lunar calendar, the consecration ceremony was completed one year on January 11, 2025.
