Can you imagine a scenario where the daughter of a Dalit family is abducted but her family and community is painted as an oppressor who are victimising her adbuctors? Is this normal in a civilised society? Incidentally, for past few days, news from Kushinagar has been going viral on social media, which has caught everyone’s attention. The disturbing thing is that the mainstream media also created confusion among the people by broadcasting a fake narrative without doing their own primary research on the issue.
On 8 January 2025, news made headlines in the mainstream media, in which it was claimed that in the Nebua Naurangia police station area of Kushinagar, Dalits treated Muslim women inhumanely, stripped them naked and assaulted them. This news created a nuisance across social media. But when our TFI team gathered information on the matter, it revealed a totally different story, exposing that the media reports could have not be any further from the truth.
The mainstream media promoting half-baked, adulterated news or news manipulated to suit a vested agenda not only deteriorates social harmony but also creates a feeling of mistrust among communities that have been living together for centuries.
Kushinagar: FIR exposes the farce of Muslim victimhood narrative
An incident has suddenly gained momentum in the Nebua Naurangia police station area of Kushinagar, the real reason for which is related to the disappearance of a Dalit girl who was married in the Gulriha police station area of Gorakhpur. She disappeared from her in-laws’ house a few days ago. According to the girl’s family members, a Muslim youth trapped her in Love Jihad and coaxed
her to elope with him.
However, it is shocking how the mainstream media presented this serious incident from a different angle without investigating it in depth.
News started spreading in the media on 2 January. When the Gorakhpur police reached the village for questioning, the Dalit family went to the suspected man’s house, pulled his mother and aunt out, stripped them naked, beat them and paraded them around the village. However, in this case, the local police say that “no concrete evidence” was found to support the allegations, and these news are fabricated.
Our team investigated this serious issue and gathered some vital information. Ramai Paswan, a resident of Nebua Naurangia, has said in the complaint given to the police on 2 January. At around 8 am, the Gorakhpur police had come to Nasruddin’s house for questioning.
After some time, Nasruddin’s wife started hurling casteist slurs at the Dalit family. When the women of the family—Maneka and Reshma—arrived to stop them, Nasruddin’s sons Sameer, Amjad, and Irfan attacked them. According to the complaint of Ramai Paswan, after this attack, medical examination of the victim women was also conducted. Despite this, the Paswan family has been receiving death threats ever since the complaint was filed.
It is irresponsible for the media to spread such news without evidence, and it also promotes hatred and misunderstanding in society. On the one hand, the Dalit family is hoping for justice, while on the other hand, efforts are being made to communalise the matter through fake news.
Terror of fundamentalist Muslims on Dalits in Kushinagar
This is not the first time that reports of atrocities on the Dalit community have come to light in Kushinagar. This time, too, tensions have gripped the area after allegations of kidnapping of a Dalit daughter. Such incidents have shocked not only the victims’ families but the entire society.
Last year, on 13 June 2024, a Dalit woman came forward and narrated her ordeal, in which she told how some Muslim fundamentalist youths were continuously harassing her family. The woman said that they entered the house and, molested her sisters and daughters and threatened to kill her if they protested. She was coerced to leave her home. Imagine the pain of a family that has decided to leave their birthplace due to fear, threat and insecurity.
Another such incident came to light on 15 October 2023, when the Kalash Yatra, taken out on the holy occasion of Navratri, was attacked. Devotees said that as soon as the yatra reached near the mosque, suddenly, the attack started with bricks and stones. A 5-year-old child was also injured in this yatra comprising both women and children. Abusing and derogatory words were also used by the Muslim radicals during the incident, vitiating the atmosphere.
While the Islamist atrocities on the Dalit community has been going on for a long time, the media, Islamoleftist intellegentia, and vested interest groups not only attempt to swap the victim as oppressor as well as keep on harping the broken facade of Bhim-Meem unity on social media platforms.
