The United States of America is a peculiar land to exist in human history. A country who cares to uphold law and order in every land other than their own. The United States never fails to turn its back when it comes to pointing fingers, interfering and lecturing different countries on human rights, privacy rights, democracy and other issues even if these matters go entirely internal to those nations. But, rarely does the United States turn its eyes upon maintaining the same noble principles in its own land.
At the present moment, the United States is sitting on the month of transition where the Trump administration is taking over the baton of governance from Joe Biden regime. The month is not only seeing transition of dispensations but also the big ‘pardon game’ being played by both the past and future governments. The ‘Pardon Game’ by the two offices has turned the lights of hypocrisy upon the United States.
The Capitol Hill Violence that took place on the 6th of January, 2021 has been at the centre of the Pardon game. The Capitol Hill violence involved the mob of alleged supporters of then-President Donald Trump storming the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to overturn the certification of Joe Biden’s election victory. The insurrection disrupted Congress, led to the deaths of several individuals, and caused extensive damage.
The developments at the latest involving Capitol Hill Violence has touched the epitome of hypocrisy by the United States of America. The current President of US Donald Trump upon taking office pardoned around 1,500 rioters tied to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack, including Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio. The pardons covered those convicted of violent offenses, such as assaulting law enforcement.
Prior to Donald Trump’s Pardon, the former President Joe Biden also pardoned Dr. Anthony Fauci, retired Gen. Mark Milley, members of the Jan. 6 House committee, and Capitol Police officers who were responsible for investigating the Capitol Riots violence. Since both the rioters and the finding committee members have been pardoned, what should this imply? Was there no Capitol Hill Violence that took place on the 6th of January? Were the videos, photos and news reports coming out part of a big conspiracy to defame the Great United States?
Capitol Hill Violence and the pardon game surrounding it is enough to expose the hypocritic character of the US. On one hand, it goes on to pontificate at other countries including India over sanctimonious ideas of justice and maintenance of order and on the other present, it dolls out pardons to rioters unabashedly. It must also be noted that the former President, Joe Biden a few days back pardoned his own son along with a total five members of his family during his last minute in office.
Rarely does the United States turn its eyes upon maintaining the same noble principles of maintaining law and order, justice, freedom of speech which it preaches day and night to other countries. There have been many instances where the right to free speech of individuals has been curtailed by the United States of America. Be it Edward Snowden, Julian Assange or Chelsea Mannings, all had to suffer hefty consequences for exercising free speech.
Edward Snowden, Julian Assange, and Chelsea Manning are prime examples of whistleblowers punished for exposing government wrongdoing. Snowden revealed U.S. surveillance programs, Assange exposed military secrets, and Manning leaked documents detailing abuses in Iraq. Despite their actions drawing attention to issues of transparency and accountability, they faced severe legal consequences under the Espionage Act. Snowden fled to Russia, Assange sought asylum in the Ecuadorian embassy, and Manning was sentenced to 35 years, later receiving clemency.
The United States has always come forward pointing fingers at every other country for not walking along the footpaths of humanity. The sanctimonious by the United States now and then develops the idea that it must be a country that walks along the good road. But the instances coming out from the ‘great’ nation tells a different story altogether.
Frankly, when it comes to the United States judiciary, the Capitol Hill violence and the partisan stances of supreme court judges in the past has thoroughly exposed that US judicial system is a travesty to Justice, Humanity. While it has all the power in its command to whitewash it’s abject contempt to global rules based order, international laws, humanity and present itself as THE Best country in the world, it is an undeniable fact that the US is one of the worst when it comes to inflicting wounds on humanity, all in the garb of protecting US interests, noble virtues. The nation based on Judeo-christian values, follow a reprehensible moral balance in which whistleblowing or a petty crime against the US warrants the might of US courts, however, the grave and heinous crimes like terrorism, gangrape, flesh trade on its private island, Paedophile crimes by Hunter Biden is too innane that deserves foregiveness, clemency or pardon.
For the US, the pardon game begins at home…but the free world is not a slave, or a second fiddle to the US anymore… while the majority will overlook the grave crimes of the US, it’s abject contempt to noble virtues, for vested agenda, political expediency, it was our duty to keep showing mirror to the US, and it will continue to do it all along.
