On 1st December, the Uttar Pradesh Government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath came up with a new development in the state. In order to streamline the management of the upcoming Kumbh Mela which will be hosted in 2025, the Uttar Pradesh Government took a significant administrative move where it came up with the creation of a new district Maha Kumbh Mela district.
Maha Kumbh is one of the sacred Hindu events and is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world which is being held every 12 years. Maha kumbh will be hosted in Prayagraj starting from January, 2025.
With the formation of a new district, the Maha Kumbh Mela district will have a dedicated administrative team to oversee preparations, logistics, and facilities for pilgrims and it will help in ensuring a good experience to millions of devotees who will arrive from every corner of earth to participate in the sacred event.
The official government order mentioned “I, Ravindra Kumar Mandad, District Magistrate, in continuation of the instructions given in the Government’s letter dated November 25, 2024, exercising the powers conferred under Section 2 (th) of the Uttar Pradesh Prayagraj Mela Authority, Prayagraj Act, 2017, hereby issue a notification to declare Mahakumbh Mela District for the organisation of Mahakumbh 2025. The boundary of the Maha Kumbh Mela District will be as follows. The area of the revenue villages and the entire parade area described in Annexure-I will be included in the Maha Kumbh Mela District/Mela Area.”
According to the official government order, the Mela Adhikari of the district will be granted wide-ranging powers under Section 14(1) of the Indian Civil Defense Code, 2023, including those of an Executive Magistrate, District Magistrate, and Additional District Magistrate. The Mela Adhikari will also possess the authority of a Collector across all categories of cases to ensure effective governance during the event.The decision comes with immediate effect. The administrative setup aims to streamline law enforcement, infrastructure development, and the coordination of services, ensuring the safe and smooth participation of pilgrims from across India and abroad.
The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath highlighted the importance of the creation of a new district and also mentioned the UP Government’s commitment to ensuring smooth experience of the devotees and efficient administration of the Maha Kumbh.
