Sharad Pawar, Rahul Gandhi, Uddhav Thackeray are commanders of ‘vote Jihad’, says controversial Maulana Sajjad Nomani

Maulana Sajjad Nomani, who is notorious for his extremely anti-Hindu stance and having a soft corner for Taliban terrorists, has given a clarion call for a ‘vote jihad’. Nomani has issued an appeal to the Muslim community to stay away from BJP supporters and vote for the Mahavikas Aghadi in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections.

Interestingly, the BJP has filed a complaint with the Election Commission about Nomani’s inappropriate statements concerning the party and its supporters. Reacting to his comments, the BJP leaders have said that the Maulana wants Talibani rule, therefore, he is making such statements.

In fact, some of the videos of Maulana Nomani have gone viral on social media platforms. In one of these videos, the Maulana has said, “If someone in your area supports the oppressor, boycott him. I know that some people supported the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. Such people should be socially boycotted.”

In another video, he could be seen saying, “If they get defeated in Maharashtra, then the Delhi government will also not be able to survive for long. Our target is not just the Maharashtra government but the central government and the future of the country. This is a vote jihad whose commander is Sharad Pawar, whose illustrious soldiers include Uddhav Thackeray, Rahul Gandhi and Nana Patole.”

BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya has filed a complaint with the Election Commission against the extremely provocative statements of the Maulana.

Reacting to the Maulana’s remarks, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said, “In the video that has surfaced, the Maulana is saying that those who have voted for the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections, find them and boycott them. He is promoting vote jihad. The commanders of vote jihad are Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray and Rahul Gandhi. What kind of politics is going on? We have never seen politics going to this level for polarization. Due to the panic of defeat, the Congress and its allies are trying to bring forward ideas that divide the society and the country.”

BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari has also reacted to the issue saying, “This statement of Maulana Sajjad Nomani makes it clear that if ‘Maha Vinash Aghadi’ comes to power, the lives of non-Muslims may be in danger. Maulana Nomani wants Talibani rule, that is why he is talking about social boycott of non-Muslims.”
