Poll strategist Prashant Kishor tries his hand at politics, launches his Jan Suraaj Party

Political strategist-turned-activist Prashant Kishor, who was roaming in Bihar with a picture of Mahatma Gandhi for the past two years, has finally come up with his own political outfit – Jan Suraaj Party.

Interestingly, Kishor, who is also known as PK among the people close to him, launched the political party on October 2 – the birth anniversary of the father of the nation.

During his ‘pad-yatra’ (foot march) in Bihar, he would stay in tents and interact with people’s representatives in villages.

Inaugurating a brand new political party in Bihar, the state that has been governed only by two politicians – Lalu Prasad Yadv of RJD and Nitish Kumar of JD(U) – in the past 34 years, Kishor said in case his party voted to power in the next assembly elections, he would not take up the chief minister ship.

Expressing his views on the highly controversial issue of banning liquor in the state, Kishore said he was against the idea as it leads to black-marketing of alcohol, and also the state ends up losing a whole lot of revenue every year.

Meanwhile, people in Bihar seem to be enthusiastic about Kishore coming up with a political alternative for them as they are seemly fed up with just two political parties – the RJD and the JD (U) – ruling the state for decades with BJP remaining at number two spot.

The new political party formed after two years of ‘pad-yatra’

Prashant Kishore did not exhibit any hurry in forming the party as he preferred feeling the nerve of public first.
Kishore, who says that tax money earned through liquor sale could be used to ensure good education for all in Bihar, has been attracting people from all walks of life to join his newly-launched political party.

Several former bureaucrats and leaders are joining him. Anand Mishra, who had been an IPS officer, has joined the Jan Suraaj Party. Former MP Sitaram Yadav, ex-minister Raghunath Pandey and his daughter-in-law have also joined the party.

Jan Suraaj Party plans to contest the by polls due this year, even if its main battle would be the state assembly due next year.

When political parties such as Congress and RJD are busy indulging in caste politics, Kishore has announced that his party flag would have pictures of Mahatma Gandhi and BR Ambedkar.

Things that would go against or for Kishore

Good thing about him is that he is not displaying hurry in getting on to the hot seat. Also, the promises that he making with people of Bihar are going down well with them.

His promise of content change in the party leadership at the highest level is also being appreciated by people.
However, as he has been promising a number of new developments in the state’s politics, people, it seems, are not ready for too many changes and new things, and this could against Kishore.

Kishore, who has good amount of political experience, would, it seems, be able to handle the challenges that the party may have in future.
