Yet again, saddening news comes from Bangladesh. The Goddess Kali crown gifted by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi at the Jeshoreshwari Temple in Bangladesh’s Satkhira was stolen on the 10th of October. The Bangladeshi newspaper The Daily Star stated that the silver, gold-plated crown was stolen at around 2 pm shortly after the temple priest had left following the day’s worship. The cleaning staff later discovered that the crown was missing from the deity’s head. This crown was gifted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Bangladesh in March, 2021.
India has urged Bangladesh to investigate the theft of the crown gifted by PM Modi at Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple, recover it, and take action against the culprits. “We have seen reports of theft of the crown gifted by PM Modi to Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple (Satkhira) in 2021 during his visit to Bangladesh. We express deep concern & urge Govt of Bangladesh to investigate theft, recover the crown & take action against the perpetrators”, Indian High Commision in Bangladesh wrote.

Local law enforcement officials are currently conducting a thorough review of the temple’s CCTV footage. “We are reviewing the temple’s CCTV footage to identify the thief,” said Inspector Taizul Islam of Shyamnagar Police Station.
The Jeshoreshwari Temple is considered one of the holiest sites for Hindus and is recognized as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas.According to the Hindu belief, it is where the various parts of Sati’s body are said to have fallen, in the course of Shiva’s Rudra Tandava. Jeshoreshwari represents the site where the palm of Sati fell. The name “Jeshoreshwari” means “Goddess of Jeshore.” The temple is believed to have been originally constructed in the latter half of the 12th century by a Brahmin named Anari, who built it with 100 doors for the Jeshoreshwari Peeth. It was later renovated by Lakshman Sen in the 13th century, and in the 16th century, Raja Pratapaditya undertook a full reconstruction of the temple.
