The Indian Army proved Rahul Gandhi’s claims wrong

Rahul Gandhi, Army, Agniveer

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi faced a major embarrassment when the Indian Army investigated his claims regarding compensation for the families of Agniveer martyrs. On Wednesday night, July 3, the Army issued a clarification stating that Hony. Agniveer Ajay Kumar’s family has already received compensation amounting to ₹98.39 lakhs. This announcement came after Rahul Gandhi falsely accused Defence Minister Rajnath Singh of not providing ₹1 crore compensation to the family.

Army’s Clarification

The Indian Army clarified through a social media post that they have investigated claims of non-compensation to Hony. Agniveer Ajay Kumar’s family and acknowledged his sacrifice with full military honors during his last rites.

According to the Army, the family has already received ₹98.39 lakhs, with ₹67 lakhs in grants and other benefits to be disbursed immediately after final settlement by police verification. In total, this amount will be approximately ₹1.65 crore.

Ministry of Defence and Army Statement

Following the Indian Army’s clarification, Rajnath Singh’s office also reposted the Army’s statement, reaffirming their commitment to the welfare of Agniveers. Sources cited by NDTV reported that ₹98 lakhs was disbursed to Agniveer’s family by the end of June. The Army’s statement was released within two hours of Rahul Gandhi’s video message.

Allegations by Rahul Gandhi

In his video message, Rahul Gandhi repeated his claim that Agniveer Ajay Kumar’s family received no compensation. He stated that defending truth is the foundation of every religion, but Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lied in Parliament about the assistance given to the family. Gandhi also demanded an apology from the Defence Minister to Parliament, the nation, the Army, and Ajay Singh’s family.

Agnipath Scheme and its Issues

This scheme was initiated in 2022 to include armed forces personnel in short-service profiles for three services. Under this scheme, recruits are referred to as Agniveers.

Ajay Singh’s father also claimed in a video that his family received no compensation from the central government, contradicting the Defence Minister’s statement. He also urged Rahul Gandhi to raise our voice in Parliament that all necessary assistance should be given to the families of martyrs. He demanded the cessation of Agniveer recruitment and the reinstatement of regular recruitment.

Use of the Term ‘Agniveer’

The Defence and Home Ministries clarified that the term ‘Agniveer’ is not officially used. Currently, families of Agniveers do not receive regular benefits like pensions if they die during duty.

Conclusion

After the Indian Army’s verification of Rahul Gandhi’s claims, his credibility has suffered a significant setback. This incident underscores the critical need for transparency in disbursing compensation and benefits to Agniveer families, ensuring accuracy and accountability. Clear communication and factual verification are essential to prevent similar controversies in the future, maintaining trust and integrity in governmental and military operations.

Addressing discrepancies promptly and ensuring that families receive rightful support are crucial steps towards upholding respect for the sacrifices made by Agniveer personnel and their families, fostering a transparent and supportive environment within the defense establishment.
