Maharashtra’s politics has always been complex and unpredictable. In recent elections, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) took several steps that confused voters, reflecting new dimensions of electoral strategy. This article seriously analyzes the political situation in Maharashtra, focusing on two major points: the issue of two Shiv Senas and two NCPs, and the impact of Devendra Fadnavis.

The Issue of Two Shiv Senas and Two NCPs

In Maharashtra politics, the role of Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is significant. In the recent Lok Sabha elections, the issue of two Shiv Senas and two NCPs confused voters, resulting in consequences for the BJP in the election results.

Division in Shiv Sena

The Shiv Sena split into two factions led by Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde. On one side, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena adheres to the old and traditional ideology of Shiv Sena, while on the other side, Eknath Shinde’s new Shiv Sena is allied with the NDA. This division confused voters about which was the real Shiv Sena. Uddhav Thackeray’s supporters wanted to see Shiv Sena in its original form, while Eknath Shinde supported development and new ideas through his separate organization.

Division in NCP

Similarly, the NCP experienced a split between Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar. Sharad Pawar maintained the NCP’s old ideology and alliance with Congress, while Ajit Pawar started new politics by joining the NDA. This division also confused voters about who was the real leader of the NCP and which direction was the right one.

Impact of Devendra Fadnavis

The neglect of Devendra Fadnavis by the BJP in Maharashtra politics had an adverse effect on the election results. Fadnavis, known for his strategic capability and effective leadership, gave Shiv Sena a tough competition in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. When Shiv Sena was divided into two parts, BJP workers and supporters hoped that Fadnavis would be given the responsibility of the Chief Minister.

However, BJP surprised everyone by making Eknath Shinde the Chief Minister. This decision created dissatisfaction and confusion among BJP voters, who saw Fadnavis as a trustworthy and experienced leader. Ignoring him weakened their faith in the BJP. The reason for making Shinde the Chief Minister was perhaps to manage the rebel faction of Shiv Sena and strengthen BJP’s power, but this move backfired in the Lok Sabha elections.

This decision had a direct impact on BJP’s electoral performance in Maharashtra, resulting in fewer seats than expected. Ignoring Fadnavis caused deep dissatisfaction within the party and weakened external support. It became clear that the party leadership sent a wrong political message by sidelining its influential leaders.

In the future, BJP needs to maintain internal balance and properly recognize its leaders. The party should seriously introspect its decisions to regain voters’ trust and perform better in future elections.

Expanding the Voter Base

Fadnavis worked to strengthen BJP’s base in both rural and urban areas. He initiated several schemes for farmers, youth, and women, which increased BJP’s support base.

Conclusion

The NDA employed several strategies to confuse voters in Maharashtra. The issue of two Shiv Senas and two NCPs created confusion among voters about the correct leadership and ideology. Additionally, the way BJP sidelined Devendra Fadnavis also cost the party dearly.
