IAMC X account ban: It’s an unwavering truth that those who cross Bharat’s path the wrong way are bound to learn a lesson they can never ever forget. X, formerly known as Twitter, seems to have grasped this message quite early. In a significant move, the X handles of organizations known for their anti-India propaganda, namely, the Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC) and Hindus for Human Rights (HfHR), have been withheld in India.
When attempting to access the X account of IAMC from India, a disclaimer boldly proclaims, ” @IAMCouncil has been withheld in IN in response to a legal demand. Learn more.” But what prompted this action?
According to the Hindu American Foundation (HAF), the Indian American Muslim Council has deep-rooted connections with the banned Islamic terror outfit, Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). Additionally, IAMC maintains ties with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) through its founder, Shaik Ubaid. IAMC portrays itself as a rights advocacy group but is backed by Jamaat-e-Islami, a lobbying organization.
#Update: #Naperville, IL alleged Quran burning amplified on SM by CAIR & IAMC was #fake news. Book was not a Quran & there was no intention to target Muslims.
It is unacceptable that a family’s life was endangered over false charges & these national groups must apologize. https://t.co/Ph5jkhlDHJ pic.twitter.com/KsfgKCvoGl

In the past, reports have emerged suggesting that X account of IAMC collaborated with various groups in the USA, even providing financial support, to push for India’s blacklisting by the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF). IAMC has been caught disseminating fake news and misinformation to further the Islamist cause in India and faced allegations that led to its classification under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in 2021.

Notably, the X account of ‘Hindus for Human Rights (HfHR)’ was also withheld in India. Upon visiting the official handle of this organization known for its anti-Hindu propaganda, a message informs us that “@Hindus4HR has been withheld in IN in response to a legal demand. Learn more.”
Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) handle ‘Disinfo Lab’ previously alerted the public to HfHR’s active promotion of the misleading narrative of ‘Hindu Vs Hindutva.’ This organization was also seen endorsing the ‘Dismantling Global Hindutva’ conference. According to Disinfo Lab, HfHR came into existence in 2019 and was formed by the Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC) and the Organization for Minorities of India (OFMI).
This decisive action taken by X (formerly Twitter) in withholding the X account of IAMC and HFHR in India sends a clear message. It indicates a commitment to combat the spread of anti-India propaganda and content that seeks to divide and misinform. It is a reminder that while freedom of expression is paramount, responsible use of social media is equally essential.

As per legal demand @X has withheld @IAMCouncil's handle in India, It's very commendable work. But also need to act against @IAMCHindi (IAMC's Hindi version) because it's spreading hate against India on the basis of religion. pic.twitter.com/woNKyugpta— 🇮🇳 🚩𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡 (@manishqj) October 15, 2023
The move to withhold these accounts resonates with the Indian government’s concerns about the misuse of social media platforms to incite hatred, spread false information, and foster communal disharmony. The decision also underscores the need for social media giants to collaborate with governments to ensure that their platforms are not misused to further nefarious agendas.
X’s action serves as a testament to the importance of accountability and responsible content dissemination on social media. While individuals and organizations have the right to express their views, it should be done within the boundaries of law and ethics. The withholding of these accounts stands as a step towards maintaining the integrity of social media and preventing it from becoming a tool for disinformation and hate.
The decision to withhold the accounts of Indian American Muslim Council and Hindus for Human Rights by X (formerly Twitter) is a firm response to anti-India propaganda and misleading narratives. It demonstrates a commitment to preserving the integrity of social media platforms and ensuring that they are not misused to incite discord and disseminate false information. It serves as a reminder that freedom of expression comes with the responsibility to use these platforms ethically and within the bounds of the law.
