Operation Ajay: Why fear when Jaishankar is here

In the midst of the Israel-Hamas conflict, India has once again shown the world why it is a force to be reckoned with, both diplomatically and culturally. As the world watches the turmoil in the Middle East, India has extended its steadfast support to Israel. The Ministry of External Affairs, led by the astute S. Jaishankar, is ensuring that no Indian is left stranded in the conflict zones of Israel.

On a bright Friday morning, a flight carrying the first batch of Indians who were stranded in Israel due to the ongoing war touched down in New Delhi. This mission, aptly named ‘Operation Ajay,’ is a testament to India’s unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of its citizens. A total of 212 Indian nationals from Israel arrived at the Delhi airport, and Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar was there to personally welcome them.

Under ‘Operation Ajay,‘ special chartered flights are being deployed to bring back Indians who find themselves in harm’s way. If the need arises, Indian Navy ships stand ready to assist in this noble mission. Union Minister Chandrasekhar reassured the passengers, emphasizing that India’s dedication to the safety of every Indian is rock solid, thanks to the determined leadership of Prime Minister Modi.

“Our government will never leave any Indian behind. Our Prime Minister is resolute in protecting them and bringing them back home safely. We are grateful to EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar, the team at the External Affairs Ministry, and the flight crew of this Air India flight for making this possible, for reuniting our loved ones with their families safely and soundly,” Chandrasekhar expressed with heartfelt gratitude.

This operation is yet another feather in the cap of the Modi government’s diplomatic prowess. While rescue operations are nothing new for our nation, it was in 2014, under the leadership of the then Minister of External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj, that India adopted an aggressive policy to bring back every Indian in distress, regardless of the nation they were stranded in.

In 2014, as the civil war between the IS forces and the Iraqi army intensified, 46 Indian nurses found themselves in captivity in a hospital in Tikrit, Iraq, held by ISIS militants. The world watched with bated breath as India launched a daring and successful operation to rescue these brave nurses. A special Air India plane was dispatched from Delhi to Erbil to fly them home. Their safe return was a testament to India’s unwavering commitment to the well-being of its citizens, no matter where they were in the world.

The spirit of compassion and dedication didn’t end there. From Yemen to Ukraine, India continued to go above and beyond in evacuating not only its own citizens but also extending a helping hand to others in need. This humanitarian initiative earned India accolades from around the world. It showcased India’s deep-rooted values of compassion, diplomacy, and the unwavering commitment to stand by its citizens during times of crisis.

In Yemen, during the civil unrest in 2015, India launched ‘Operation Raahat’ to evacuate its citizens as well as foreign nationals. A total of 4640 Indian citizens and 960 foreign nationals from 41 different countries were evacuated from Yemen. India’s swift and successful operation became an international benchmark for humanitarian rescue missions.

Likewise, when conflict erupted in Ukraine in 2022, and Indian students were stranded, India acted promptly to ensure their safe return. The mission was a shining example of India’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens and its willingness to provide a helping hand to those in need, irrespective of their nationality.

In times of crisis, the world looks to nations that exemplify compassion, diplomacy, and a sense of responsibility towards their citizens. India, as witnessed during the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict and previous international crises, has consistently demonstrated these values. The country stands tall, a beacon of hope and assurance for its citizens in distress, embodying the belief that no Indian will ever be left behind.
