AMU’s solidarity march for Hamas: Can it get any worse than this?

One cannot help but wonder what goes on in the minds of those who run and study at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). Recently, as the world, including our beloved Bharat, came together to unequivocally condemn the heinous attacks on a music festival in Israel by Hamas terrorists, the students of AMU shockingly launched a solidarity march in support of these terrorists.

The pro-Palestine Muslim students of AMU were seen chanting “Allah-u-Akbar” slogans and carrying placards with hateful slogans against Israel and unwavering support for Palestine. One such placard brazenly declared, ‘AMU stands with Palestine, Free Palestine, this land is Palestine, not Israel.’

According to media reports, hundreds of AMU students participated in this rally, fervently echoing anti-Israel and pro-Palestine slogans, along with Islamic chants. They claimed that Israel was committing atrocities against Palestine and proudly raised their voices against oppression across the globe.

For a moment, let’s entertain the idea that their allegations against Israel have merit. However, the gruesome images that have emerged from the attack site in Israel paint a starkly different picture. The way an innocent German tourist was mercilessly murdered and her corpse mutilated by Hamas terrorists, and the inhumane treatment of young children as young as four and five who were caged – do these AMU students support these acts too? Is there no limit to their shamelessness?

However, it’s essential to remember that this is AMU, a place where not only patriotism but humanity itself seems to take a backseat. This is the same university where a poster of Jinnah, the founding father of Pakistan, is displayed prominently. Jinnah’s role in the partition of India and the subsequent violence that ensued is well-documented, and his glorification at AMU raises serious questions about the institution’s values.

Moreover, this is the same university where, in a shocking incident in 2018, Kashmir was removed from the map of India during a program, and Arunachal Pradesh was absurdly shown as a part of China. Such actions not only undermine the sovereignty of our nation but also reveal a disturbing disregard for our territorial integrity.

AMU has also produced individuals like Sharjeel Imam, who gained notoriety for his plans to break “The Chicken’s Neck” – a narrow strip of Indian territory that connects the northeastern states to the rest of the country. His intention was to separate Assam from India, an act that threatened our nation’s unity and integrity.

It is deeply troubling that an educational institution like AMU, which should be nurturing young minds and instilling values of tolerance, empathy, and respect for humanity, seems to be fostering an environment where support for terrorism and separatism finds a voice.
As responsible citizens of Bharat, we must condemn such actions and ideologies that undermine the principles of peace, coexistence, and unity that our nation stands for. While everyone has the right to express their opinions and concerns, supporting acts of terrorism and separatism can never be justified.

In the face of global challenges and conflicts, it is crucial that we promote dialogue, understanding, and peaceful resolutions to disputes. Blindly supporting one side of a complex international issue without considering the full context and consequences is not a responsible or constructive approach.

The recent actions of AMU students in expressing support for Hamas terrorists and their actions in Israel raise serious concerns about the values and ideologies being promoted within the institution. While everyone has the right to express their opinions, supporting terrorism and separatism should never be tolerated.
