From “Canadian Kumar” to enduring the tag of “Flop Star,” Akshay Kumar has weathered the storm of the entertainment industry like a true survivor. His journey in Bollywood has been a rollercoaster, marked by highs and lows that have defined his career.
In what can only be described as one of the most challenging phases of his career since 2010, Akshay Kumar faced the brunt of six consecutive box office flops, a stark contrast to his usually bankable status. It all began with his ill-fated experiment with “Bachchan Paandey,” which failed to strike a chord with the audience.
However, as they say, adversity often paves the way for reinvention. Akshay Kumar, criticized in the past for his tendency to sign multiple films simultaneously, now finds himself in a position where this very strategy might serve as his trump card.
The year 2024 holds a critical juncture for Akshay Kumar, with not just one or two but a whopping eight films lined up in his kitty. It’s a “make it or break it” moment for the actor, as he seeks to reclaim his box office dominance and silence the naysayers who had written him off. As the curtains rise on this new chapter in his career, the stage is set for Akshay Kumar to once again prove his mettle as one of Bollywood’s enduring stars, and it is on this very strategy that we shall focus upon.
Akshay to make his flaws his strength?
The last couple of years have been a bit of a rollercoaster ride for Akshay Kumar, to say the least. Though he brought back the charm of Indian cinema with the surprise success of “Sooryavanshi”, since 2021, things haven’t exactly been going according to plan for the Bollywood superstar. Whether it’s due to a dearth of compelling scripts or his habit of taking on multiple film projects in a single year, Akshay found himself facing one box office disappointment after another. This downward spiral continued into 2023 when “Selfiee” virtually disappeared without a trace, leaving Akshay in a rather uncomfortable spot.
While many might consider taking a break or scaling back their commitments after a string of setbacks, Akshay Kumar has opted for the opposite approach – a riskier path back to the top. This decision didn’t materialize out of thin air.
Despite facing relentless criticism and a head-to-head clash with the much-anticipated “Gadar 2,” Akshay Kumar’s “OMG 2,” in which he had an extended cameo, emerged as a surprising success. The film raked in more than 220 crores worldwide while working with a modest budget of 50 crores.
Now, whether “Mission Raniganj” proves to be a success or not remains to be seen. However, what’s undeniable is that Akshay Kumar is gearing up for a wild and eventful ride in 2024. The upcoming year holds the promise of at least seven films for the actor, each carrying the potential to either solidify his position as a box office juggernaut or further challenge his career.
Among the exciting projects in Akshay’s 2024 lineup is Sudha Kongara’s remake of her own classic “Soorarai Pottru,” a film that generated significant acclaim. Additionally, fans can anticipate the return of the beloved “Welcome” franchise with its third installment. With such diverse and intriguing projects on the horizon, Akshay Kumar is ready to face the challenges of the new year head-on, armed with his trademark determination.

Will Akshay make THE GRAND COMEBACK?
The burning question on everyone’s mind is whether Akshay Kumar can make the comeback he truly deserves. Well, the answer is a bit of a mixed bag. While some of his upcoming films like “Hera Pheri 3” and “Welcome to the Jungle” have the potential to crash and burn, there are other projects that could more than compensate for any missteps along the way.
First on the list is the remake of “Soorarai Pottru,” helmed by Sudha Kongara. Her track record, particularly with the remake of her own Tamil film “Irudhi Suttru,” titled “Saala Khadoos,” suggests that Akshay could indeed start the year with a bang. If she can replicate her magic once again, this remake might just hit all the right notes.
Then there’s the action-packed caper “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.” This genre is where Akshay Kumar has often excelled, and despite the presence of Tiger Shroff, who is more renowned for his physical prowess than acting, the film has the potential to surprise audiences.
However, it’s the historical projects, specifically “Sky Force” and “Shankara,” that could be the game-changers. “Sky Force” reportedly draws inspiration from the daring airstrikes on the Sargodha airbase in 1965 by the Indian Air Force. On the other hand, “Shankara” probably delves into the story of C Sankara Nair, who took legal action against the British authorities for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The key here is a solid and compelling script, something that has been missing from Akshay’s repertoire since 2019.

In essence, while there are potential pitfalls on the horizon, there are also promising projects that could catapult Akshay Kumar back to the top of the Bollywood ladder. The ultimate success will hinge on a combination of factors, including script quality, directorial prowess, and the chemistry between Akshay and his co-stars. As we eagerly await the release of his 2024 films, one thing remains clear – Akshay Kumar is not one to back down from challenges, and this time he’s again prepared to give it his all in his quest for a well-deserved comeback.
