Who shall be PM: I.N.D.I.A creates its own “Royal Rumble”!

In the grand spectacle that is Indian politics, where alliances and ambitions often clash like mismatched dance partners, the I.N.D.I.A. alliance has taken the stage. Yet, even as existing cracks threaten to overshadow the alliance’s very existence, its members are boldly flaunting their aspirations that seem to be on a collision course with their supposed partners.

It’s like a reality show where every contestant secretly wants to be the star, and in this case, the coveted role is that of the Prime Minister. Picture this: a lineup of political heavyweights jostling not just for attention, but for the top post. It’s a scenario that seems ripped from a stand-up comedy routine, a notion that was once a punchline but is now spiraling into reality.

The Congress, a party that has been in the Indian political scene since time immemorial, has thrown their hat into the ring, or rather, their crown. With Ashok Gahlot confidently proclaiming that only Rahul Gandhi is fit to be their leader, it’s a classic case of “like father, like son.” The dynasty politics continues, and who can argue with that logic? After all, isn’t democracy all about keeping it in the family?

But wait, Mamata Banerjee strides into the spotlight, and she’s got her own magic trick up her sleeve – the “Modi Magic!” Yes, she wants to give that a shot too. Because if once wasn’t enough, why not try to replicate the mystical formula that propelled the current Prime Minister to power? Maybe she’ll start addressing the nation with a hologram projection just for added effect.

Oh, but the drama doesn’t end there. Enter Priyanka Chaturvedi from Shiv Sena UBT, and she’s got her own contender for the PM throne – none other than the head of her party, Uddhav Thackeray. A move that’s bold and unexpected, it’s like suggesting that the coach should also be the star player of the team. When asked about her choice for the Prime Ministerial candidate in the upcoming 2024 elections, Chaturvedi’s response was as direct as it gets: Uddhav Thackeray should be the face of the I.N.D.I.A. alliance. Well, why not? After all, politics is all about dreaming big.

But, hold on a second! What if Arvind Kejriwal, the outspoken leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), gets wind of all this? With Nitish Kumar already bowing out of the imaginary race, courtesy of his not-so-subtle resignation, Kejriwal’s AAP is still very much in the game. And boy, are they fuming! The AAP, a party that’s been pushing for clean politics and change, is starting to feel like the kid who wasn’t invited to the cool kids’ party. Their bone of contention? The Congress, which seems to have conveniently forgotten their “support” promises.

It’s like a playground dispute, except this playground is a massive nation and the stakes are just a tad higher. Kejriwal’s frustration is palpable – you can almost hear him mutter, “I thought we were friends.” But hey, what are political alliances for if not to be the breeding ground for unkept promises and unexpected cold shoulders?

As the general elections loom in the not-so-distant future, the I.N.D.I.A. alliance resembles nothing short of a reality TV show gone rogue. Each party seems to believe that they are the star of the show, and the role they’re eyeing is the coveted PM position. The Congress is sticking with the tried and tested dynasty formula, Mamata Banerjee is ready to sprinkle some “Modi Magic,” Shiv Sena UBT is playing their party head card, and poor Kejriwal is left wondering if his invitation got lost in the mail.

In the midst of this political theatrics, one can’t help but wonder if there’s any room left for actual governance and policies. But who needs those when you can have a good old-fashioned PM race comedy?
