Nana Patekar, the man known for speaking his mind without holding back, is back at it again. This time, he’s serving up his no-nonsense opinions, and boy, he’s got no chill, literally!
Years after he took the so-called Bollywood artistes to the cleaners for supporting Pakistani artistes in the wake of the Uri attacks, he’s once again taken them to the cleaners. When asked why he was evicted from the third edition of Welcome, Nana didn’t mince words. He bluntly said, “Unhe lagta hai hum puraane ho gaye hain” [They think we’ve grown old].
And you know what? Nana couldn’t be more spot on. Welcome without Uday Shetty is like dal without salt: pointless and tasteless. Besides Nana, even Anil Kapoor, who set the stage on fire as Uday and Majnu Bhai in the original edition released in 2007, found no place in the current edition.
But wait, Nana’s straightforwardness didn’t stop there. He took some indirect jabs at movies like Pathaan and Jawan as well. He remarked, “Ab jis tarah ki filmein hit ho rahi hain… maine kal ek film jo bahut hi hit hui maine dekhi woh… Main matlab puri dekhi nahi pa raha tha. Lekin woh filmein bahut chalti hain. Ab mujhe lagta hai ki baar-baar hum iss tarike ka material dikhake logo ko majboor kartein hain yeh pasand karne ke liye” [The kind of movies being made today are such that the other day I saw a recent hit film, and I could not even sit through it. I feel by making such movies again and again, we force people to watch them].
However, before you think he was targeting Gadar 2 as well, Nana Patekar had more to say. He took further swipes, this time at Naseeruddin Shah for daring to mock his film. In his no-nonsense tone, he mentioned, “Did you ask Naseer what nationalism means to him? According to me, showing love for the nation is nationalism, and it is not a bad thing.”

Nana didn’t stop there. He added, “The kind of film Gadar is, it will have that kind of content, and I have not seen The Kerala Story, so I cannot comment on that.” The actor also pointed out that it’s not right to cash in on the name of nationalism.
