Rajinikanth refuses to apologize for his gesture for Yogi Adityanath

Gesture of touching feet of Yogi: Rajinikanth, the celebrated Indian actor, finds himself yet again in the midst of a newsworthy debate. His recent trip to Uttar Pradesh (UP) has grabbed attention, though not for the reasons one might expect. The spotlight has shifted from his cinematic endeavors to a seemingly ordinary encounter, igniting an unnecessary uproar.

During his visit, Rajinikanth’s courteous greeting to Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of UP, has unexpectedly ballooned into a needless controversy. Rajinikanth gesture of touching feet of Yogi ji caused a furore amongst self-proclaimed rationalists, who have chosen to vilify him without valid cause. Critics have scrutinized his gesture, painting it as an unwarranted endorsement of political ideology. Yet, amidst this turmoil, Rajinikanth remains unperturbed and steadfast.

Rajinikanth, the eminent Indian actor, had embarked on an unexpected pilgrimage tour across various states, including Uttar Pradesh, following the triumphant release of his recent cinematic venture, “Jailer.”

His journey took an unexpected turn when he made a visit to Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, and performed the customary act of touching his feet. This seemingly innocuous action has, however, metamorphosed into a superfluous controversy, emblematic of the growing complexity of celebrity gestures in the current socio-political climate.

The ensuing furor encompasses a spectrum of opinions. Detractors label Rajinikanth as a hypocrite for “bowing to a hatemonger,” employing the incident to assail his integrity. Some even questioned his position as “Thalaivaa”, lambasting him for allegedly bowing down to “communalist forces”!

Amid this cacophony, Rajinikanth has elucidated his stance, clarifying that his practice of seeking blessings from revered Yogis and Sanyasis through the act of touching their feet transcends age or position. He mentioned, “It is my habit to touch the feet of great Yogis or Sanyasis and seek their blessings for my family, even if they are younger than me.”

It is cent per cent clear that Rajinikanth is definitely not going to apologize for his innocuous gesture of touching feet of Yogi. His stance is consistent with his past displays of unyielding determination in the face of adversity. This is not the first instance where he has been at odds with the fervent followers of Periyar, the iconic social activist. In a display of audacity, Rajinikanth publicly criticized Periyar, revealing an incident from the early 1970s in which deities like Lord Rama and Goddess Sita were purportedly subjected to mass humiliation—an occurrence that Rajinikanth vehemently deemed “unacceptable.”

The consequences of Rajinikanth’s outspokenness were immediate and intense, provoking fervent backlash from staunch supporters of the Dravidian ideology that Periyar championed. Yet, Rajinikanth remained steadfast, refusing to capitulate in the face of pressure. His resolute refusal to apologize, even when confronted with the fierce indignation of those he opposed, underscores his commitment to principles that transcend popular sentiment.

Rajinikanth’s recent act of reverence toward Yogi Adityanath has plunged him into an unnecessary vortex of contention. His unapologetic stance, driven by an unwavering resolve, mirrors his past instances of taking a stand despite the storm of criticism.
